The scrutiny of EP40 is on another level. It's somewhat amusing considering the guy ends up being the hero today. Annoyingly I was blocked from watching as can't watch CBC feed from phone. You guys have it good in Canada - BBC shows max two events and literally cut the Canada hockey game halfway through the broadcast to show something else unannounced too.
Up until this game I would say Pettersson had been "mid" but far from the biggest disappointment on Sweden.
Game 1 - Actually pretty good. Should have scored, would have an assist but Zibanejad couldn't hit the open net. Had a great screen on the 4-2 goal. Game 2 - Mid. Did nothing but the Swedes lost because they went 0-5 on the PP including giving up a SH goal. Pettersson doesn't play on the PP, hence had low ice time too. Ended up -1 because Zibanejad passed into his skates on an empty net goal. Game 3 - didn't watch but obviously 2 goals when game is tied 2-2 is a good outcome.
Per - I trust you have watched all 3 games. Do you agree? Who has stood out (good & bad) on Team Sweden? I'm confused by the coach - specifically why Forsberg is the extra forward.
Suomi leads 3:0 after the 1st. They'll win this game for sure.
That means Slovakia is 1st and already in the quarterfinal, Suomi 2nd waiting for the other groups closing out and Sweden just 3rd playing the prequarter playoff. Good luck.

Pretty wild to think that Finland will win this group after getting upset in the first game by Slovakia 4-1.
Sweden finally shows up with their best game and ends up 3rd. They were 30 seconds away from supplanting Slovakia but that late PP goal killed them. All the players realized it in the moment - it was pretty cool to see. Even though the Swedes didn't achieve the desired result, that game was good for them and this could prove a rallying point for them.
Although I'm still most impressed by Canada and consider them favourites, I wouldn't want to play Sweden in the quarter-finals. One of Canada, US, Finland or Slovakia is likely to face them at that stage.... great to have the NHL back in the Olympics! Very exciting stuff!

The bubble has burst for Italy. 7-0 and counting!

Finland can't win this group, Slovakia is safe 1st.
All these goals will help them to get by as the best 2nd.
The deciding factor is just the goal difference between the games played each other.
Totally agree with your last sentence.

I'm hearing Peter has been mostly flaccid for the Swedes. Fourth line center duty with half the minutes of Eriksson-Ek.
Not boosting the Swedish offensive thrust...
Some similar comments already on this thread, so not picking on you particularly Megs, and lotta hockey left to play in Italy, but this comment aged weirdly today, no??
Maybe this puts a couple shards of his glass ego together.

The thing that stood out for me was the emotion he showed after scoring that first goal.
He didn’t score a single goal in the Four Nations thingy. Then he was held off the score sheet against Italy and Finland, despite having some really good scoring chances. Finally getting that monkey off his back must have been a huge relief, and Sweden really needed that goal.
Hopefully the two goals he scored today helps build his confidence back.
He was interviewed after the game and seemed to be in a good mood. They asked about all the line changes and whether there were players he had better chemistry with:
”There's so much talent on this team, I’m happy to play with anyone. I leave that up to the coaches to decide and just try to do the best I can on the ice.”
