Non-Hockey 2026 Olympic thread

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

We discussed cussed Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier as ones to watch for earlier in the thread.

Bronze in Ice Dance.

A tough grouping in that discipline so well accomplished....

How about that wardrobe malfunction save from Piper to earn them the bronze as well!

Just watched most of that, and the skaters were pretty much flawless. This very untrained eye could see some different moves that top finishers pulled off.

For those that didn't see, pretty smooth.

Very, very experienced team (3rd Olympics, 4 time WC medalists et cetera)...takes experience and grace under pressure to pull that off....for those that don't know if the cuff hits the ice they likely do not medal.

Was watching a replay of the Super G yesterday and there were people who had climbed to the tops of the trees lining the course trying to get a better view!

Then the commentators told us it was the coaches!

Ukrainian skeleton Vladyslav Heraskevych has been disqualified for having portraits of Ukrainian athletes that have been killed by the russians on his helmet. The IOC bans political messaging, but he insists it is not politics, it is about honouring and remembering his friends and fellow athletes that have been killed and therefor cannot compete themselves.

I think they overreacted. Many hockey goalies have portraits of other athletes on their helmet.
Adam Werner in Modo has Wernblom, Svartvadet, Forsberg and the Sedins on his.

Yeah. Tough to draw a clear line on that, shame they felt the need to disqualify him. And you know.. it's a shame that "I want to commemorate my dead friends" has to be 'political'

From the same organization that banned Russian athletes.

Boom.

Countries that have killed more people and continue to do, invading other sovereign countries to kidnap their leaders, etc.... they get to dictate who can compete?! Allowing a G-side regime to waltz in the opening ceremonies waving their isnotreal flag... hmmm, yeah.
