Not that it's the only measure of performance, but by my manual count, there are 64 centres ahead of EP in scoring.

On another potential measure of centreman performance, he is a -15, which puts him 831st in the NHL. I didn't want to count how many of those 830 were centres.

But but but, he’s a shot blocking, two-way Datsukian 1C (right, Cuz?). He’s going to win the Sulky trophy for sure.

Impactful 1C… impacting the team to last place.

He could be a 3 legged lesbian, but regardless, he is currently our #1C. If Rossi or Hurtl , or Blueger were healthy in the first half, our record would definitely be better. Not playoffs better, just a shitty pick better. And, as MCP mentioned, EP40 would also look better if he had other centers to carry some of the load.

Maybe.

Logic and odds would dictate.

But considering who we are discussing.

Maybe not.

We will never know.

Chytil and Hertl got married I see.

There is no doubt that EP40 is the Canucks #1 centre.

The open question, as I see it, is whether he is a sufficiently capable centre to count as a "true" first line centre in the NHL.

So, for example, in spite of the fact that Horvat is, so far, having a much better season than Pettersson, I would agree with the assessment of others that Horvat would be more accurately described as top-flight #2 centre than a true #1 centre. Meanwhile, Robert Thomas, (drafted 15 places after Pettersson), while having a statistically inferior season to Horvat playing on a struggling team without high-scoring linemates, still seems to me unimpeachably credentialed as a true first line centre this season.

However good Pettersson looked in back in '22-'23, and I agree he looked good, the indications seem to be that he is no longer a first line NHL centre. Maybe he never was, in that his best statistical season came when there were two other strong centres on the team for at least part of the season.

I wonder what the fuck happened to his skating. This is why he's trash now I'm sure of it.

How can a guy go from a legit top center in the league (yes it's true Mëds) to a guy who looks like he learned to skate 2 years ago? Its very strange indeed.

If anyone offers up legit assets they're fucking nuts and we better jump on that fast and furiously

My theory is injuries, but that's not based on any more information about Pettersson specifically than any one else on this board has.

I agree. I think he has been suffering thru injuries for the last 2 seasons. It makes more sense than assuming he forgot how to play.

If we trade him, who is next on the "he is a bum and overpaid and the geritol group needs to trade him?" topic?

My bet is BB as we need to bitch, moan and complain about someone or we ain't happy.

PS - I agree 100% EP is not playing like he is being paid.

I think you're a little aggro with the bitch and moan there Reef.

If the Gen Z elitist multi million dollar snivellers aren't pulling their weight we, the fan who foot the bills, can howl at the moon to our hearts content.

That's critiquing.

Not bitching.

...and yes Boeser sucks too.

Careful Carl. You’ll upset JPP and MCP.

As Topper pointed out in a statistical dive he did a week or so ago, Pettersson has always been a very inconsistent player who has punched scoresheet in bunches. Inconsistent players tend to produce higher totals when they have someone else carrying the mail on a day to day basis.

He produced at that “legit top center in the league” level for 18 calendar months. Before that he projected like he might be an 82-90 point guy…..which is 1C numbers.

For a spindly 1C, his skating has always been ass compared to others in that category. Several here have pointed out his deficiency in that area since he was a rookie.

If you are willing to substitute "can't be counted on when the team needs him" for "bum and overpaid", then Demko.
