Oh Josh Holden - really taking me back now to my youthful optimism. He was the first Canucks prospect I was so excited about and so disappointed by! I have such distinct memories of them raving at the draft about how he "fell" to them - a classic trope! Didn't he have some scary wrist cut injury? I believe that was one of the primary excuses for why he didn't pan out. The Canucks really bungled a lot of those high late '90s drafts - yes it was a pretty weak era but Canucks didn't come away with enough (obviously Sedins excepted).

I think he is the head coach for HC Davos right now.rockalt wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 3:12 amOh Josh Holden - really taking me back now to my youthful optimism. Those who can, do. Those who can't...

He completely sliced 10 of the 12 tendons at the base of his hand and required reconstructive surgery. Hence my duct tape gloves to hands comment a bit back there!rockalt wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 3:12 amOh Josh Holden - really taking me back now to my youthful optimism. Jesus - even worse than I remembered! Maybe not quite at the level of a Berard eye injury but that's more career limiting than I remembered. Thanks for the link. Also good for him coaching in Davos. Thanks for the updates guys.Aaronp18 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 9:08 am He completely sliced 10 of the 12 tendons at the base of his hand and required reconstructive surgery. As long as we feel like exploring this element of Canuck luck, recall that Cody "Silent D" Hodgson first injured his back in training, missing a season, then he ultimately turned out to have a rare metabolic disorder that limited his hockey potential.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 3:21 am And Herter who hertered his hips or something like that.

Can ice and all star team of 1st round never-was'ers. If using 400 NHL games as benchmark (majority under 100)...
N.Jensen - J.Holden - J.Virtanen
N.Smith - C.Hodgson - D.Woodley
S.Antoski - P.White - A.Stojanov
J.Schroeder - L.Polasek - J.Gillis
H.Shinkaruk - B.Gaunce - R.Blight
O.Joulevi - B.Ference
M.Wilson - J.Herter
Hey hey, no goalies!
Omitted:
Cootes, Willander, Lekkerimaki, Podkolzin,...too recent to know.
L.Bourdon for obvious reasons (he would've been a beauty).

Oh, the heady days of Holden and Komarniski setting our hearts a-flutter when they were both named to the WJHC squad in 98?? Oh where are they now???rockalt wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 3:12 amOh Josh Holden - really taking me back now to my youthful optimism. My God, but that’s demoralizing. Like who has done worse than that over the same period???Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 2:53 pm Can ice and all star team of 1st round never-was'ers. If using 400 NHL games as benchmark (majority under 100)...

Hey, c'mon now, we gotta keep it low for the geriatric and his butler so they can perform the hybrid rebuild.

I read something many years ago, a Quebec born vet on the roster at the time, possibly Brodeur, had terrible practice habits and was a bad influence on the likes of the young Quebecers JJ and Mike Small.
