Not to wish bad luck on Kiefer (real solid dude), but let's hope his injury lingers to help keep that pick in the top 45-50.
Hilarious these small meaningless details are all we have left to cheer for.

Probably a good bet. Petey, Gar?
Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Those two, can add DeBrusk / Myers or Hronek too. I would be very loath to trade Hronek but can see it happening.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 11:46 amtheman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 11:41 amI am betting more trades will happen and the Canucks will have another 1st and/or 2nd.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 11:34 am I'm betting it'll be 3 picks after we use two of them to move up somewhere in the draft.

Hronek has a NMC, and his agent went on record the other day saying that Hronek has no interest whatsoever of playing anywhere else.theman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 11:48 amThose two, can add DeBrusk / Myers or Hronek too. I guess we found our tank commander.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Say what you will about management, they sure don't like to wait around. I think they still could've squeezed a 1st closer to the deadline when contenders get desperate just before the music stops. But for the sake of the tank and given Kiefer's injury status, probably best not to play with fire.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
So Sherwood's ask for a new contract is in the 5 year 5.5 range. None of the other teams interested in him were willing to trade for him at the price SJS paid with those demands. He goes to SJS without an agreed upon extension and is set to hit FA July 1st. We know the Canucks allegedly offered 4 x4 and his camp rejected that offer.
What he ends up getting will be so dependent upon how he finishes the year. If he cools off, and he will, I suspect he may get significantly lower than his demands. On SJS he will play a true bottom six role and I can't see his production staying the same.
I am glad he rejected our offer. I love the guy but we are not in a position to offer him that type of coin and term. OTOH, he may just have wanted out of Vancouver badly enough to have rejected the offer that he would willingly take somewhere else. But since the Canucks gave his agent permission to help facilitate a trade it makes me think his demands are still little too rich for acquiring teams.
I can't blame him. He is a heart and soul, leave it on the ice type of player who probably has one last contract. He needs to maximize on it and I wish him well.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Good start for sure - but hopefully thats just it. A start. They need way more than just 4 picks in one year to rebuild - I hope current Mgmt. understands this.
25/26
Evander Kane - 5th/6th
Hoglander - 3rd/4th
Myers - 3rd
Blueger - 3rd/4th
(Hughes 1st)
26/27
DeBrusk - 1st
DOC - 3rd
27/28
EP40 - 1st & 2nd
Boeser - 1st
Hopefully pick up some vets/trade assets as UFAs as placeholders for traded players - then flip them for more picks at the deadlines.
Idea being, to at least have 2 extra first round picks each year if at all possible - packaging up 2nd/3rd round picks for low firsts at the draft to add more.
Darts at the board.

Even after he's no longer a Canuck, you can still hear the sincerity and respect for the organization and city from Sherwood... unless he's the greatest thespian who ever lived.
It's sad because this is the kind of guy every team wants to have. Too bad we're not good enough right now to keep him.

Not that I think we're going to look to trade him this season, but Allan Walsh also came out to attempt to shut down speculation about a Phil Danault trade. Doesn't necessarily mean much.
Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
I would have preferred a 1st instead of 2 2nds for Sherwood, but, hey, we finally traded a UFA instead of getting nothing. Also, SJ still kinda sucks, so we will likely get around the 45th overall pick this year. Not far off the 32nd overall is we traded him to the cup champs for a 1st.
Now...as injured guys come back, watch the flood gates open! Dump the Goat Head! Oops. Not enough beer. Dump the Kane!!!!

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
So I have a pertinent question:
Just how retarded is our scouting department? This is now a very very important question for obvious reasons.
The same old retardation won't be acceptable given they're finally committing to a tank and rebuild

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Hopefully his trade value will not have cratered by then by playing on this shit squad.
If someone in that room publicly stated their wish to stay and play in Vancouver, I would have to question that player's motivation - city/hometown/creature comforts, money (ie-they don't care where they play as long as they get paid, and there are only so many roster spots in this league), or brain damage.
Poor fucker is likely brain-damaged. He must not like winning as much as our dear, devoted and departed Captain.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
All I’ve heard is that he is a fierce competitor and one of the hardest working guys. His play backs that up…..though admittedly I have not watched it firsthand since Jan 1.
Could be that he just doesn’t like moving around and finding a fit in a new place. We know he hates the media stuff…..probably more so than any previous Canuck player.
If the team is going to let him stay out of that particular arena, then maybe he’s happy to play his trade and do everything he can to help this team pull a U-turn when the rebuild gets to that intersection.
You do need guys like that.
I would keep Hronek and Myers as the vets on the blueline.
Garland and Brock up front.
Jettison the rest.
