Retain heavy on Hughes and even take another expiring bad contract back.
I like this package better, but there's no way of knowing if it was ever on the table.
Word is Canucks asked for Edvinsson as part of the package and Detroit said no.

The legacy of this management group will be trading quality for quantity, basically the anti-Vegas.

However, it is uncommon to trade many players from any one team at the TDL. I’ll be surprised if they get a good enough offer to trade Garland, too. If there is one person who plays like a captain he’s that guy, so no problem keeping him around.

I’d love to see Myers and DeBrusk traded, but I think the Canucks are stuck with them and their NMCs.

My expectation is they trade Sherwood, besides that maybe Bluegar and Forbort if they get healthy. The rest of the players probably don’t have enough value to get a pick worth trading for. If you can’t get a third or higher, there is no reason to trade anyone else - certainly don’t trade the youth.

The other trade that might happen if management is replaced would be Rossi. If a centre desperate team (there are obviously lots) wants to overpay for Rossi at the TDL for a younger prospect and a first, I’d approve. But with Canucks depth at centre, it would mean really embracing a rebuild. I’m pretty sure this management won’t go there this year, but I don’t think Rossi will be a Canuck long term.

Trading Hughes has definitely opened the flood gates. Forbert and Kane are as good as gone.

But, do we keep Sherwood, or trade him? I am the opinion that we should extend him for 3 more years. $4x3 would be my offer right now. I'd rather over pay Sherwood a bit right now than get a mid 2nd back. With the rebuild on, we still need some guys who lead by example, and set the standard for the younger guys. And, he is the closest we have on this team to sandpaper. He fills the Honey Badger/Rooster role.

So, unless a team over pays with a First, I'd try to keep him. Keeping Sherwood could be the best trade we never make.

Agree 100%, the team still needs some players so keep Garland and Sherwood unless the offer is really good.

Don't care about Kane, no one wants the Giraff, Debrusk is too streaky and Boeser just signed a long term deal so he is staying.

I could see Myers waiving for Edmonton . Close to home and a chance to win.

I cannot see any of our UFA's extending here now. They will all want to test the market and go somewhere with a chance to actually play meaningful hockey. If we're rebuilding then it's time to embrace the suck. Draft and develop. Play the long game (unfortunately). Don't draft Americans right now.

Give Boeser, Garland, Myers, and Demko, the option to be traded. Least you can do out of respect for their tenure and efforts. If they decline, then those are the guys who set the example for the new young players until their contracts expire.

I don’t think Sherwood re-ups here. He’s heading for UFA to get the bidding war going. It’s a thin UFA crop this year that is surely to benefit him. Hes an Ohio boy so probably wants to go Eastern America. He’s also probably worried about his stock price being on a team in last place overall with no hope for post season to keep his worth worthy - showcasing himself. He most likely has already given mgmt notice he ain’t signing before July 1st forcing the Canucks hand to get him out of loserville. This most likely explains the current shopping of Sherwood around the league. He’s gone

Get ready for some Beagle-level contracts for vets over the next few years to shepherd the young guns.

That's fine, provided they don't come on anything more than 2 year deals and absent gross overpayments with trade protection.

There’s no need for that. They may very well only move on from Sherwood and call it a day, they’ve got some good quality vets here to mentor the next wave. Would be nice to get another 1st round pick in a Sherwood trade as apparently some have already offered that. The return on Hughes may make a Sherwood trade easier now since prior to the Hughes trade they were hoping to solve some positional need in a Sherwood deal. Doesn’t seem so pressing now to solve that in a deal involving Sherwood. If we can walk into the 2026 draft with 3 first round picks that would go along way into beefing up the pipeline.

He really shouldn't return a first unless someone is overpaying. His scoring heater was a once or twice in a career lucky fuck event

That’s apparently what some teams have offered but the Canucks wanted a player on top of that. They may relax their demands now on Sherwood now that the Hughes trade solved “some” line up issues.

If someone's offering that they'd be retarded to dither on pulling the trigger....oh wait :look:

Sherwood is worth a 3rd or 4th, probably a 3rd rounder at the TDL. His scoring streak has never been done before by him and, while he did step up his impact in Vancouver, the resume is not there to warrant more than that unless a team is thinks that his energy will be a benefit and they are confident that they can get into the 3rd round.....in that case, you shoot your shot and maybe pony up a 2nd rounder for Sherwood.
