Cap space is as valuable as anything with him on an ELC. If he can eat 16-18 minutes a night while not getting caved in stats-wise at an ELC hit, then there is an economy there.
Yeah...I know nothing about the player.

But from the research I've done since the trade I think you're maybe selling him short.

The word Superstar potential is bandied about from some...

I think for chemistry reasons it could be good, good for each other, those two formed a real good line back in Sweden

Ohgren...

Everything happens in motion for Öhgren. He gets moving as pucks arrive at his position, skates through his passes, and doesn't need to break stride to get off his shot. He plays at such a heightened pace that the puck often flies from his stick no sooner than you realize he's even secured possession in the first place.

Absolutely AMAZING haul for Vancouver all things considered.
Only if you hold the Minnesota scouting department in high esteem.
Lancer wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 5:06 pm The most valuable part of the haul is the first round pick. Buium will likely do the American thing and bolt at the first opportunity - being Jewish in a Canadian market puts a bullseye on the poor kid. Ohgren has utterly underwhelmed and Rossi is a shrimp who has never been a PPG player.

They’re placeholders till Pettersson is gone and the next wave, starting with this draft, is ready for bigger minutes.
I mostly agree with this part of your analysis, with the exceptions that:

1) Ohgren might not have done anything impressive yet, but he's awfully young to give up on, and Swedes tend to thrive in Vancouver.
2) Rossi is short, but not tiny. That minor defence aside, there doesn't seem to have been anything impressive about him so far, and unlike the other two, I think he's too old to hope for much further development.
3) I think that some of the next wave is already with the organization. I think that Raty, Cootes, and Willander could still be with the team the next time they go deep into the playoffs.

Edit:
4) Even if Buium never gets comfortable in Vancouver, he's still pretty clearly an asset. If it seems like he wants to move on, do the pump 'n' dump and flip for an asset they can use, or parlay.

Ok.....my 10 minutes of reflection.

The 1st.....with this trade it has a decent chance of actually being 29th or below. They definitely should have held for at least another pick.

Zeev Buium.....yeah, scouting reports look decent, likely a solid top-4 guy in a couple of years (pushing that right now actually).

Liam Ohgren.....another fucking Swede, I'm glad that Rutherford and Allvin are probably gone after this. He has 0 points in 18 games with the Wild this year and 5 points in 9 games in the AHL. At 21 years of age he's hardly setting the world on fire. Low expectations, likely back in the SHL when he's 25.

Marco Rossi.....He's a 60 point 2C on a good team, hopefully he can anchor a line and be that here on a lesser squad. Either way, I think our new 2C should form a line with Hoglander and Garland.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Buium

Buium scans ahead of each retrieval, plans his escape route in advance of collecting the puck, makes sure to draw in at least one forechecker, and then beats them with near-comical ease, keying a clean breakout and activating into the rush. He is intelligent, deceptive, skilled, even creative in a part of the game where being efficient would suffice. -

Not really. By the time we're competitive he won't be on an ELC anymore.

He also tallied 19 goals and 37 points over 41 games in the AHL last year...so let's call a spade a spade.

I think he's wrong anyway.

This kid appears to have top 2 potential.

theman wrote: Fri Dec 12, 2025 5:14 pm As said Calpuke thinks the Canucks have done pretty well in this trade.
Considering the state of their team, and what they have thought was building to a contender up until last season, I'm not putting much stock in those opinions.

Yeah man, I’m done.

Can even the HGs keep this team from the best odds at the 1st overall?

Hope it’s equally as bad next season, forcing the ouster of this regime and EP begging to be traded too.
