It's not a 'rebuild' but it looks like management isn't looking at loading up for the playoffs this year - according to Friedman, so take that for what it's worth:
“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that — in an effort to get younger — they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'”
I wouldn't be surprised if Sherwood or someone else like Bluegers or Kane moving in that scenario. Sherwood may be pricing himself out of management's plans and he should fetch something useful. Kane and Bluegers would be a matter of clearing out cap and spots on the bottom-6.

Either way, at least this is a quiet admission by management that a lot of things didn't go right already this season and they're ready to throw in the towel.

Friedman points out that trading Quinn is not on management's mind right now. I wonder if that changes by the Olympic break.

I thought last season was a slog...

Outside of Quinn Hughes I imagine that Sherwood and Garland would get the most inquiries with Kane next. I think you could get decent returns for Sherwood and Garland, but according to word on the street, the Canucks want young players and not draft picks. In other words “hockey trades”. So, same old shit. The stubborn mule that this organization is hanging on for dear life to the mushy middle. The sideways trajectory.

I get that draft picks don't manifest their worth until 3-4 years after the pick is made which, which would make Hughes 30 by the time that happens if management got picks for vets this year - that is if Quinn signs. Defeats the purpose if management wants to capitalize on Quinn's prime years.

Question is what kind of 'young player' would any of them fetch? Sherwood and Garland are good middle-6 pieces but they're not going to fetch a young player with top-6 upside - at least not on their own. Who would give up a young top-6 player for an older one, unless the younger kid was looking like a bust? Likely a pick would have to go the other way - likely a high one if the player seems likely to hit that potential.

Word is out already the Canucks are looking for a centre in return for some of these “veterans” they are open to trading. In other words a hockey trade, not a sell/rebuild trade. They are too focused on keeping Quinn happy but if Quinn does end up wanting out even with all the efforts to show good faith by avoiding the rebuild this would be even more disastrous for the organization. Do you see where this could potentially go for Rutherford and Allvin and the organization. Too often with this organization we’ve been victim to job saving moves by GM’s, putting themselves ahead of the greater good. Needs to stop. Which is why Nonis is bad ass refusing to make a trade the Aqualini’s wanted him to make, same goes for Linden and Gillis. Are Rutherford and Allvin patsy’s like Benning? Remains to be seen.

His contract is too much for what he is, but that's not his fault.
Perhaps a few more Patera starts would put things in perspective for you.
The Calgary coverage pointed it out. They were commenting how easy the goals were on him, even called him Lettin'emin lol
Watch the highlights, most of the goals featured 1 or 2 flames between Lankinen and the nearest Canuck. Except the 3rd goal which went in off Willanders skate. Lankinen didn't look great, but team defense was the bigger issue.

Right. Demko is a greater problem. Because if he were healthy, the Canucks wouldn't have to rely on Lankinen. Who has been horrible. Not that there aren't other issues, but the Canucks would not be in near the hole they are in with average goaltending.

I see apologists about him having no chance on many of the goals. Sure, but they are missing positioning errors, lack of rebound control, lack of control on pushes, misreading the play. [Edit Add: He creates many of the goals that appear unsavable when you are just looking at the end of the play]. And the thing about NHL goalies, is they make saves other pro goalies have no business making *every single game.* You have to get big saves at big moments; what have there been? One or two games that Lankinen has done that? Compare it to the soft goals, the backbreakers. It's been a pathetic start, let's hope he turns it around.

Last 5 games

Boeser 0G 2 A
Sherwood 1G 3 A
Garland 1G 0A
Debrusk 2G 2 A
EP 4G 3A

I don't expect each player to be a PPG game 0 goals by Boeser isn't helping, Sherwood seems to have cooled off but he working hard, Garland, don't know whats wrong with him, maybe injuries. Debrusk is a streaky scorer and 2 in 5 games is not bad.

Our defence and goaltending has been a shit show this season. Worst goal’s against in the entire league. The powers that be hyped this season as a team with strong goaltending and defence? Hmmm, waiting.

We need that pick Rikster.

Oddly enough I kinda thought about that Walker trade. I have a bit of a problem when my team's best player is 180 pounds with his gear on. I love the player but its time to cut him loose by the deadline. Draft picks are cheaper to acquire then and another team gets Quinn for at least a hundred regular season games and two playoff runs. And a window to extend him for 8 years.

Im on board Team Stealth Tank. This ear and next, then turn and burn.

I need to see Patera again. All four games hopefully. Tolopilo might actually have a bit of talent.
