Raped? I think conventional wisdom had Boeser getting $8M+ with this free agent class in a world where a number of teams had money. I'm not sold the deal will be good value, but its not below market. And as you say, who knows the real story to any of it, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if agent tells team making him an offer (say Oilers or Jets) that he'll talk to Brock, and that agent calls Canucks (who have never shut the door) and says, "Brock's got an offer for this -- what's your last offer? I'll take them both to him."Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:23 am Dhaliwal going off like the Canucks got raped by Boeser. He out waited them, out smarted them. They capitulated and have to eat crow. Said they collapsed at the last moment and gave him 7 years because he was going to get that from a number of teams and more cap. The guy can just not be happy with the Canucks.
Who knows the real story. We all know the public dis. We all know Brock was hurt. We all know he wanted to stay. The Canucks were not as sold on him as he was on them. But at the end of the day there were no other viable options to use that money. Did the Canucks give in. Yes, they never wanted to go past 5 years but they sucked it up. Maybe they were too confident his desire to stay would rule and he would take 5-6 years. But whatever. Why paint this as a total Canucks capitulation and ass beating. Jerk.

Good for the kid. He has slipped to #9 or 10 in our depth chart. Too good for Abby. Too good to clear waivers.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!
Re: Free Agent "Frenzy" Day
Seeing the Brock gets a NMC for the first 4 years, then nothing after that - seems reasonable.
Re: Free Agent "Frenzy" Day
Sammy Blais is off to Montreal (Sorry, Megs)
Re: Free Agent "Frenzy" Day
I like Brock’s contract. The cap hit is great, and yeah, the term is too long. But, at least the contract doesn’t carry him to age 43. Lol

Ceci and Dumoulin sign in LA. 4/4.5 AAV for the former, 3/4M AAV for the latter. Ken Holland at work!

Well we traded for one so does that count?
I am liking that we did not make any panic trades nor crazy UFA signings. Of course the day is young.

I don’t think management is done this summer by any stretch, but there have been no desperation moves so far, which is encouraging.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 1:05 pmWell we traded for one so does that count?

No stupid deals for ‘culture carriers’ like before. That is also encouraging.

Garlands happy;
Conor Garland on Brock Boeser returning to the Canucks: 'We were just ecstatic'
It's been a busy off-season for the Canucks already, and the Canadian club made waves Tuesday with the news that Brock Boeser is returning to Vancouver on a seven-year, $50.75-million deal.
The Canucks inked two other veterans to new deals Tuesday as well, signing goaltender Thatcher Demko to a three-year, $25.5-million deal, and winger Conor Garland to a six-year, $36-million pact.
Speaking with David Amber, Luke Gazdic and Colby Armstrong during Sportsnet's Hockey Central Signing Season broadcast on Tuesday, Garland said he was thrilled to see Boeser return to Vancouver. And while many might've been surprised to Boeser re-up with the Canucks, that wasn't the sentiment among his teammates.
"Not surprised at all," Garland said Tuesday of Boeser's new deal. "We obviously had a lot of us in touch with him the last few days — we were excited about the possibility of bringing him back. I just went outside and saw the news when I came back and got on my phone. We were just ecstatic.
"He’s one of my best friends, a great player, so just really excited about our future together."
With the majority of Vancouver's free-agency decisions made, attention now turns to 2025-26, and how the Canucks can move on from what was a disastrous 2024-25 — a season that saw the team mired in wave after wave of off-ice controversy, leading to a trade that sent J.T. Miller out of town, and a finish outside of the playoff picture for Vancouver.
"Obviously we lost a pretty big piece of our team last year, but you know, as you see we have three of our guys that have been here for a long time re-signing," Garland said Tuesday. "We’ve got a lot of good players coming back. It’s really loud on the outside, but for us it’s just about getting back in the playoffs, having a good summer, preparing well and having a great training camp.
"For us, it’s quiet. Obviously we understand how it works in Vancouver, but that’s the price you pay to play in a great city in a Canadian market."

Granlund to Ducks, 3 by 7.
I thought he was fading a couple years ago, but he's put together a couple consecutive good seasons. Its a nice forward group the Ducks have put together, and there's good potential in their D, but it may be season of continued growing pains on the back end. They aren't as terrible as the Sharks, but I still think they have to add a high quality defenseman to have a better shot than the Mammoth or Canucks to break into the playoff group.

Wow - before they signed Boeser, was thinking the Canucks might get him for around 5m.
Not many good UFAs left and lots of cash burning holes in GMs pockets pays off big for Granlund.
Probably it’s a good thing Canucks have a full roster and no cash left.
They’re left with hockey trades to improve things now.

Yeah, that amount for Granlund is steeper than the media projected. But I also think the conventional wisdom underrates him. He's happy the "market" did not.....Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 2:01 pm Wow - before they signed Boeser, was thinking the Canucks might get him for around 5m.

And some posters had the market for him pegged exactly....

The Western Conference is shaping up to be a very competitive conference top to bottom, lots of improvement with the top of the class teams, the mushy middle teams and the bottom feeders. Chicago still looks like they will struggle next season, should be one of the contenders for McKennaUWSaint wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 1:51 pm Granlund to Ducks, 3 by 7.
