Let me propose the question - ‘if Benning had not drafted Quinn Hughes how have Allvin and Rutherford done so far’?

If you remove Quinn from view, look at the team without him, seeing what Allvin and Rutherford have accomplished in 3 seasons, how would you rate the job they’ve done?

Are they simply riding Hughes coattails? What’s going on here? Until Pettersson (a Benning player) returns to himself, if he ever does, Quinn is their only “core” player at the moment. They (Allvin and Rutherford) simply have not been good enough, one of the worst one season mis-management declines I have ever witnessed in my entire esteemed Canuck fan life, bar none. Are the two of them on the clock this season? Yes!! 100% they are!! Darn tootin’!!!

Doyle, your thoughts?

This off-season will define their tenure. It's been a drama-filled reality TV show, and we've had one good season when everything clicked. They didn't build off of that, they regressed. So another season moving backwards and they're done.

I agree Cornuck, this off season will determine their fate. Especially how they handle Hughes pending UFA situation. I don’t have a lot of confidence in them in doing the “right thing”. The Aqualini mandate will remain alive and well with their puppets simply towing the company line, as usual.

The short term vision reigns supreme in Aqualini land, I’m seeing no change, not expecting it…sadly. The mushy middle - the Canuck Way. How long until will it take for the San Jose Sharks to be better than us?

Preliminary Olympic Team lists were released today, and both Hronek and Pettersson weren't on those lists. Not to say they won't eventually end up on their national squads, but their absences were noted.

While Hronek's spot on the team, barring any injuries, looks solid I think Sweden's national team is waiting and seeing which Petey will show up. I wouldn't be surprised if Pettersson has lost some shine with Sweden's hockey leadership. Half the Vancouver fan base has given up on him; the NHL media environment has gleefully reported on his fall from grace and has labelled him a distressed asset; but what what is the perception of him among Swedish hockey fans?

I wonder what insight Per could offer on this matter?

It doesn’t get any better for this idiot, wasn’t he benched at 4 Nations? I gather they saw all they needed to see to make that decision. I hope this hurts him where it counts but I highly doubt he gives two shits, probably would rather hit the beaches with his bling bling during.

Not part of a major ad campaign
Not selected to their preliminary Olympic squad

What’s next?

That would enrage the Dude, Wiebo, Mëds, Hank and perhaps Don Lever. They hate that Scooterfella.

There's just too much talent there. Despite what Mëds thinks he was a fierce competitor earlier in his career....working his ass off to turn pucks over, back checking hard enough where he drew comparisons to one of the best backcheckers of all time Pavel Datsyuk.

That shit doesn't just evaporate.

If they can find a high end winger to work with him I can definitely see him returning to form offensively and (and no...Boeser is not a high end winger lol)

What are the odds that removing Tocchet will help Peter 'find' his game again?

You're either trolling, lying, or just an obtuse moron.....maybe all three.

Nothing would make us happier than to eat crow on this.

That comparison was only made by you on these here boards.

I do recall in the Edmonton bubble that he was givin 'er. He put effort in during his first 3 seasons.....less during seasons 4 through 6, and last year, well.....nvm.
That shit doesn't just evaporate.
It does if he's an entitled prick who just cashed in on a guaranteed $92M money train and now has all the money he will ever need to build his brand.

That was always the red flag, even during his early seasons, he was more concerned about building his brand than putting the full effort into training.

What's his brand worth if he's a mediocre player?

There's a list of hockey coaches and former players that compared him to PD including Jeff Blashill, Trevor Linden and others.

AI Overview

+1
Elias Pettersson is frequently compared to Pavel Datsyuk due to their similar styles of play, particularly their exceptional stickhandling, offensive creativity, and strong defensive abilities. While Pettersson may not yet match Datsyuk's level of play, many observers believe he possesses the potential to reach similar heights.
Here's a more detailed look at the comparison:
Stickhandling and Offensive Creativity:
Both Datsyuk and Pettersson are known for their mesmerizing puck-handling skills and ability to create scoring chances with creative plays.
Defensive Prowess:
While often overlooked, both players are effective defensive players, relying on positioning, stick-checking, and hockey IQ rather than physicality to win puck battles.
Similar Playing Style:
Observers have noted that Pettersson moves in a way that is reminiscent of Datsyuk, and his ability to find unique solutions in challenging situations draws parallels to the "Magic Man's" game.
Potential for Greatness:
Although Datsyuk is a Hall of Fame-caliber player, Pettersson's early career suggests he has the potential to reach a similar level of play, particularly in his offensive and defensive capabilities.
