The most sane post I’ve read this morning. It seems that everyone at the CC has devolved to Matt Sekeres levels. Mitch ain’t coming here and thank your lucky stars he ain’t coming here.
I agree with Leonard Smalls, sign the Swiss Army knife - Suter and leave it at that. Say goodbye to molasses skates Boeser. I also agree with Smalls on Karlsson, he has it, just needs more love.
Would love to see this organization to stop walking players to the doors of UFA. Deal 2026 UFA’s - Sherwood, Demko, Garland and Blueger sooner than later
Patience.

I’d be ok looking to deal Garlund if you think term/cap is going to be an issue. DAK I’d see what next season brings. Sherwood I would look to extend 2-3 years. I think Raty is ready for full time duty.
They fixed the D and strengthen goaltending so I have faith they will figure this out.
If Sherwood puts together another season next season like had this season he will hit the jackpot if he waits until July 2026. I imagine he feels he can do it again as he mulls his situation. I’d move on from Garland. Demko is a tough one. Need to see how his health pans out in 2025/26. The more I look at it, drafting Ravensbergen with our 2025 first may be the wisest of wise decisions, long term. Not the sexiest draft choice but probably the smartest.

I'm the opposite on Garland. He doesn't overperform the salary enough for a team to pay significantly for him. He will likely stay around the same price to re-sign. He's skating and effort is consistent, even though the production is inconsistent. He's one of the few Canucks who can carry and possess; he's terrific at rebalancing the ice when its been tilted against the Canucks. And in a world of lack of top 6 depth, he's a middle 6 forward who can credibly play up and complement or play down and lead a line. Its a suite of skills the Canucks don't have in any other player.
Sherwood is a guy you deal at the deadline if you aren't making the playoffs; keep as a self-rental if you are. Teams needing "toughness" at the dedline will jump. And if you move another middling player or two on some salary (O'Connor, Joshua, Hoglander), you can consider resigning Sherwood, but that really depends on how the rest of the lineup is shaking out.
I'd look to move out Joshua. Perhaps the cap increase will mean he still has a market, and plenty of teams would like his size and PK ability. That's a move I'd make before the draft, to free up the cap space for a trade/free agent.

Say goodbye to molasses Boeser and hello to molasses Karlsson. Got it. (FWIW, I like Karlsson for the top 13/14 F when the season starts -- I'm not sure he's anything more than a tweener, but he's competitive, has a big body that you can plunk in front of the goalie on a 2d unit PP, has continued to develop into his mid 20s, and isn't so clearly worse than the guys looking for work every offseason at $1M as to not give him a shot and see what he can do with more NHL exposure to put himself above the line).

I imagine we will be battling for a wild card position again. We are a middle of the pack team and what I hate about being in the middle of the pack is those teams tend to keep theirspending UFA’s around for the “fight” (to the bitter end) in trying to get in the playoffs as first round fodder so Aqualini can pocket the money he so adores.

Could you imagine 6 middle six forwards, all paid about 4.5-5.5 that could drive a line, carry pace, move up and down the lineup, no nights off, score and skate with that effort??
Championships are won with heart like that.
..but some hate him because he is small.
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.

I would take that all day long.

Right there with you on Gar. Though, to be honest, it was his past couple of seasons that has totally changed my mind on him. Before that I was somewhat disappointed in him showing not much more than a throw in on that disastrous trade. Now, for me he's one of those guys I feel I just gotta have on my team.
I'm always partial to players who seem to consistently show up big to meet big moments, despite their pay and status on the team (meaning he's not counted upon as a top 2 or 3 go-to guy). Think Burrows, think Adams, Ronning and Gelinas also sort of comes to mind. Guys who just have an uncanny ability to score or make a big play when the pressure's too big for even the top dogs. I think of those last minute plays Gar made this year with the goalie pulled (Jersey and Dallas immediately come to mind). I think of last year's playoffs. That slick, massive game winner he pulled off on Skinner to complete the comeback in Game 1 against the Oil. The big 3rd period goal to spark a near comeback in Game 7. The play he made on Lindholm's OT winner to complete that miracle comeback against the Preds. Etc., etc.
Little guy, big heart, big moments. You can't put a price on players like this.

^ This - having Garland makes the OEL trade a little easier to deal with. Too bad he's not 6'2 - but I'm guessing his impact on the bench is just as valuable. He's giving it on every shift, and one of the few players on our team who does. If the rest of the team gave 80% of what Garland gives each night, we might still be playing. :/
We've seen a LOT of middle-sixers come through the organization in the last few years - I can't think of any that have the compete level of Garland.

You absolutely can!! 4.5-5.5 AAV! — right where he is getting paid. He has a contract that he consistently earns, and often over plays it. But as soon as some fans want changes, he is first of the because of his size.. yet when paired with a Power forward like Joshua or a hitting machine like Sherwood, he makes every center look better, and they create momentum changing zone time.
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.
The team's middle-/bottom-six is not really a problem. If anything, certain 'middle-six' players overperformed their role. Suter and Garland filled holes in the top-6 when injuries happened, and otherwise held their weight in the bottom-six. Bluegers had an alright year, even if it wasn't the same level as the season prior. I'll give Dak a pass because of his cancer issue; I can imagine it takes a bit of time to get the body back in shape after chemo and such.
The only reason I would let any of them go is if they're asking for too much on a new contract. We'll see what Suter's asking price will be. We'll see what Sherwood does for an encore before anyone starts wondering if he'll price himself out of management's budget.
Would it be safe to say that, outside of Quinn and maybe DeBrusk, it was the middle-six forwards and the backup goaltender who kept the team in the hunt as long as they did? It was the stars who went MIA, whether that was Demko, Brock, Petey or Miller.

A sea of garlands would be angry Hobbits taking the ring to Mt Doob
You can only have one hobbit per quest. Quinn Hughes is already Bilbo so...we need some more men or elves in the fellowship
Your love of the halflings’ leaf has clearly slowed your mind. All that Longbottom has made you forget that there were 4 Hobbits on that quest, and two of them took the ring to Mt Doo(b).
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
