So the final thing I saw initially on socialz and then heard tell of through this event is that before the EP contract was finalized a trade with Carolina was indeed on the table.

We have heard through various media wads that EP for Necas and Kotkaniemi was offered at the time.

Scuttlebutt says that it was actually as follows:

Necas
Kotkaniemi
Scott Morrow
1st round pick

For EP (whether it was plus was not mentioned).

Allegedly Francesco blocked this deal and forced the 11.6 x 8 extension on JR and PA.

For clarity I can NO WAY verify if this is factual nor am I claiming it as such.

It's just ended up in my face twice recently.

Once on a gossip based social platform and once in a more reasonably believed venue.

To bad Wids connections aren't around anymore to verify.

I think some (many?) of us suspected as much…..I mean, we usually do question ownership when shit goes weirdly sideways. But this? What could ownership’s goal possibly be here? Drive it into the ditch so badly that some enraged or unhinged fans (looking at you Blobby and Chef) burn Rogers to the ground for a massive insurance claim? Are they wanting to move the franchise?

The bit about the factions in the room was sorta the consensus around here. No surprises there. However, I did not get the impression that Boeser or Hughes were fans of the guy they kept.

A respected Jack Adam’s winning coach and a Norris winning franchise defenseman are apparently also guys that ownership wants to part ways with.

I don’t see a suggestion of the reason behind ownership wanting to stick with EP (theoretical or otherwise).

I don’t believe it’s just the Petey/Miller situation that forced Tocchet’s decision. Ultimately, IMHO, his decision to leave is an indictment on the overall performance of our management and ownership, in what he witnessed in his time here. It’s a fucking circus beyond the Miller/Petey drama and he sees it. It’s been that way since the Aqualini’s took over. Tocchet just basically said to Vancouver - “get me the fuck away from here!”

Since 2020 the Canucks have traded 5 first round picks, 4 Second round picks. Thats 9 high end prospects that would be in this organization. Add Podkolzin into that and it makes 6 first round picks that the Canucks have traded since 2020. 10 prospects (1st and 2nd rounders) traded since 2020.

I imagine they will be trading this year’s pick, so lets just jump the gun and make that 7 first rounders. And it’s starting to look like Willander is gone as well.

So a grand total, since 2020:

- 8 first rounders picks (potentially)
- 4 second round picks.

Are we any better for it? Better than Montreal or Calgary for it?? Those teams don’t trade their picks or prospects. We just keep circling the drain. IMO we are worst for wear, our top 6 forward group is the laughing stock of the league, but yay! We got Quinn Hughes…and nobody else…lol.

I think I agree vis a vis EP/JT/Toch Dude but IF he had drawn a line in the sand with Miller and was out voted then it has everything to do with that situation

But either way it didn't help.

I did not add to my verbal diarrhea above that Tocchet was (allegedly) vocal about moving Petey out and, as stated, lost out to ownership.

So lineup construction and the ability to be have a voice is also a potential issue.

I also surmise Tocchet maybe looks 2 years down the road, sees a perennially floating EP and Hughes potentially gone and thinks "I'm gonna attach myself to this?"....

As well, we as fans see a disconnect in the Canuck front office, Tocchets deeper inside, what do you think he sees?
