There's no retool with a Hughes trade even if they did somehow manage to maximize his value. There won't be a like for like trade because there's no other like Hughes, unless Makar's sick of mile high air. Best value you can hope for is a haul of prospects/picks, meaning It will be start over time when you have no elite core players left.
Agree, the kid is sick. Not sure he's at Quinn's level right now but definitely very close when you watch him play. It would unbelievably make less sense for Montreal unless they could convince Quinn to hang around for longer than 2 yrs. Otherwise, unless they think they can win it all in the next couple years with Quinn they might be better off with Lane growing with that young core for the long haul.
Which just makes you realize the Quinn return may not be so great. Unless there's a guaranteed extension to the new team attached, not sure how much I'd want to give up for a guy who'll most certainly find his way to his bros in a couple of years. Could Jersey be the only trade partner?
Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
Right, you suggested basically Makar or no one.
While I get your point and understand it's a bit hyperbolic I disagreed a bit and brought up a name outside of Cale.
Clearly any trade would be tied into an extension or its a dead conversation.
Put Quinn Hughes on that team for 8 years and that group could win a couple of Cups.....
Might be so with Hutson anyways so perhaps moot.
Shootin' the shit as it were....

Yup, got ya. Lane was a good retort, he's that good. Honestly though for me it's Quinn and Cale then everybody else as far as d-men go. There was a lot of talk here not unfounded of Quinn being generational. A generational player has few peers if any. Agree though, Lane can get there someday.
Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
Yeah 'Tuzzi.
I'd rather QH just stayed, this Management/Ownership Group removed their collective heads from each others asses, got their shit together and he retired as the best Canuck ever with 4 Norris Trophies, a Conn Smythe and at least one Cup.
And in the conversation as the best D man of his generation.
But.
I just do not see it happening.
Really feels like he's gone.
Canuckfanitis?
Maybe.
Maybe not.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
We can all hope because that's all we have left.
But you're right, he's gone. Not sure I like JR's loose lips too much but one thing's for certain, when he speaks you listen because it often reveals a lot about what's going on that we're not privy to. When he openly said Quinn wants to play with his brothers, to me that's the moment that spelled the immanent departure of our one and only generational player (if you don't count Pavel). We all kinda knew anyway but speaking about it affirms it. Conditioning the fanbase to cushion the blow, not unlike the JTM/EP gripe before the trade.
But, like Pavel, I think I can get over it in time. The only thing that remains is if they can handle this situation in the best manner that can benefit this franchise moving forward. What I'm afraid of is what Chef implied as the way it will play out is a very real possibility. That scenario is totally and completely unacceptable, but I can absolutely see it happening. This ownership group can never see beyond two years let alone one. They'll keep Quinn until the bitter end when he walks for nothing and the message to fans will be we did our very best to keep him here and offer some numbers to prove it. Not unlike Big Z, Tocc, Brock (after he leaves), etc..

Yeah, I'm with you on this I am afraid.
The kids straight up a Dude with integrity.
Get a series of teams he will sign and trade to and start making that deal now.
He's got heavy Michigan ties.
Detroit.
Start with Seider and shift players/picks in and out to equalize the deal.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
Not a bad suggestion. The problem is the extension. As much as Detroit would give anything to have him, any trade that doesn't have an extension attached is a non starter, I would assume.
So the question would be if he's willing to agree to an extension elsewhere not named New Jersey, then why wouldn't he do it here where he is the captain and face of the franchise?
The next question is could you make a trade to a team not name New Jersey with no extension attached? There might be some. It would have to be a team that's one big piece away from a realistic chance to win it all in the next two years. Think two year rental. Think Washington, think Toronto, think Carolina,..maybe even Edmonton, Vegas, Winnipeg if they don't win it this year. Don't think Cap space would be too big of a factor as Quinn's got a fairly manageable ticket remaining and I'm sure a team up against it would find ways to make room for him.

Right, as I said earlier this theoretically all ties to an extension or its either a no go or we potentially get rooked.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:29 pm Not a bad suggestion. Well, just for arguments sake.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:29 pm So the question would be if he's willing to agree to an extension elsewhere not named New Jersey, then why wouldn't he do it here where he is the captain and face of the franchise?
1 - he's the or a face of any franchise he goes to
2 - he's American and on an Island out here
Back to Detroit.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 7:29 pm The next question is could you make a trade to a team not name New Jersey with no extension attached?
Yzerman has to be running out of get out of jail free cards sooner than later.

Hmm, you make a compelling argument. Would make sense but giving up Seider plus for a 2-year rental is risky. Tho I suppose they could sell it as 2 years + opportunity to extend.
All for argument sake but moot as we all know there's zero chance our group has the foresight to consider anything like this.
