If I'm the Canucks I'd strongly consider giving Foote a crack. He was instrumental in turning this defense around, why not see how he can do calling all the shots? He's put in plenty of time as an NHL assistant....someone is going to give him a chance, why not Van?

The Canucks have built up a deep defense as their cornerstone. Why not build out from that core of young defenders with Foote as their daddy ?

Think of the splash Mr Aquilini could make if he hired Jessica Campbell. That kind of virtue flex would elevate him to hero status.

She might appeal to Peteys feminine side

I threw up a little when I read that. I hope Mëds survives that thought.

Why not a Swedish coach? We already have a Swedish GM.

I bet Mëds would love a Swedish owner too.

Hey, maybe Sam Hallam, 4 Nations coach for Sweden could be brought in to further EP's growth and develop....

...oh, wait, never mind.

I was down with this idea immediately after hearing of Tocc's decision. What would it hurt, we roll through coaches every couple of years anyway so why not give it a shot with someone new who's already got his foote wet here? I really don't have the stomach for another rehashed temp coach like Laviolette or Boudreau.

Foote, there it is!

It's becoming less should we than when do we. That day's getting closer and closer.

I'd feel a lot better about this right now if the fuckers listened to me and scooped up assets at the deadline over holding on to a couple of guys who'll almost certainly bale and getting M.Petey. How good would it be potentially having three first-rounders right now in the arsenal to add to the Hughes haul? Now that a rebuild is looking more like a necessity than a choice with the way things are trending.

Love that Jannik Hansen continually bemoans the 3 firsts as much as I do. He gets it.
Don’t do this to yourself bro, as long as the Aqualini’s own the team that will never happen. Rebuilds have to be owner approved according to Nonis. They fired Gillis for proposing a rebuild, they fired Linden for suggesting staying patient, building through the draft. It ain’t happening. As Jansen says, it’s one core player “Hughes” and nothing else. Yes, I agree Hughes ain’t signing here, the problem is, I have absolutely zero faith in this management group staying ahead of it, doing what’s best for this organization and fully capitalizing on Hughes asset value. His return value will decrease the closer he becomes a UFA as everyone knows he’s signing with Jersey to play with his bros. They will do the same with Hughes with what they did with Boeser, walk him to UFA, hoping they can sign him. Fruitless.

Tanking would be great cause the 2026 class is a good one!

So, in other words, a rebuild may happen or have to happen despite owner approval, because there's no other path the way things are trending and how you see it going down. Basically what I'm trying to say, cannot disagree.

There's no retool with a Hughes trade even if they did somehow manage to maximize his value. There won't be a like for like trade because there's no other like Hughes, unless Makar's sick of mile high air. Best value you can hope for is a haul of prospects/picks, meaning It will be start over time when you have no elite core players left.

That day will be depressing as hell (if it isn't already). Can't imagine watching this team without the Hughes magic show on the blueline every night. The good news is every team that's ever won a Stanley Cup did it without Quinn Hughes, so it is possible to build a winner without him. The bad news is there's not enough competence here to make that happen.
