The Preds had a real solid run into the post season last year post U2Spheregate but it appears now a legit anomaly which Trotz was fooled by.

Just not that good a team.

Blew a wad on Marchy and Stamkos.

Not great.

I was reading somewhere that there was thought that the Canucks should try to pry Stamkos from the Preds. The theory went that the Preds would be happy to part ways so the ask may not be too high. Sure would help our PP. Of course there is that little thing called a NMC. He has 3 years left at 8M per. Would that be better use of our cap say over Boeser.

Getting someone to play centre without giving up much for assets, maybe just a draft pick, is the right idea. Stamkos was the worst minus in Nashville and might be done. But maybe if they put him between Joshua and Garland he could be an effective short term 2C. I wouldn’t give up much, listen to what their most competent pro scouts say, and I’d want some retention on the 8m. At this point in Stamko’s career, the Canucks might be better off biting the bullet and paying around half his salary to keep Suter around as a lower end 2C, hoping in time either Raty can develop more offence and move into a 2C role, or a better opportunity to pick up a centre arises next season if they can’t find and sign a UFA.

At this point in Stamko’s career, there may not be much difference down the middle between Pettersson, Stamkos, Raty, Blueger and Pettersson, Suter, Raty, Blueger.

Mats Sundin/Mark Messier 2.0

A big fucking no to the washed up Stamkos. Can’t believe there are still fans who get roped in to thinking this works. Especially where this team is at which is barely a wildcard team at best.

But…our ownership are such morons I wouldn’t be surprised the dingbats push for it.

They aren't bring Stamkos in here. This is nonsense.

If they won't give BB excessive term then why would they dream of shelling out for washed up pieces like that? All their moves have been following the same script of adding mid to late 20 somethings on 3-4 year max term contracts that can be moved along relatively pain free.

The Stamkos idea reeks of Sekeres lunacy. He’s lost his marbles, it’s also classic Daliwahl as well. The local yocals should be ashamed when the eastern media like Sausage Sevarelli has better intel on the Canucks. Goes up show you what we are stuck with out here.

If we don't make the dance, I am glad Millzy9 & the Rags didn't make it also. It would have been better if we made it and the Rags did not, but this is acceptable. Another year older for Millzy and no playoffs. Time is ticking fast for him. :P

Mats Sundin was an astute signing. If he would have been here for camp instead of halfway through the season he may have pushed that team over the top. 2008/09 was such an up and down season. If Roberto could have made a couple more saves and Cornelius Mitchell didn't puke the puck away like a greenhorn, that team gets by the upstart Hawks and has a shot to beat the geriatrics and meet Sid and Geno in the final.

Have they had a better top 6 since? I subscribe to a top 9 but the skill in the top 6 hasn't been matched since that season.,

Willie Desjardins back to Gangcouver. Bring his dance moves, his leather vest, his grubby mustache and his coffee cup that says "World's Greatest Coach" back to the wet coast.

Nice to hear John Garrett doing the WInnipeg game. So much better than anyone the Canucks have used for colour. If he isn’t retiring they should do whatever it takes to get him back on the Canuck’s broadcast, including replacing Shorty if the problem is between those two?

Yah, that 08/09 team deserved a better fate. There was a big drop off after the top 6 though. AV maybe could have moved a couple guys around to spread out the depth/talent. That D core was pretty solid as well, but as much as I liked SOB, he may have been a weak link.
