US Erection 12 *AND* 16 *AND* 20 *AND* 22 *AND* 24 *AND* Beyond

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

It wasn't a great field, it never is. Did you know he was going to embark on this crazy tariff policy? I didn't, and I don't know anyone else who did. I was interested in walking back from the brink of WW3 and at least Trump was showing some interest in that area.
Not sure how anyone couldn't have known, he campaigned on it and has only been promoting punishing tariffs since the 1980's...

Agree that for a country the size and economic power of the US, it's baffling the quality of characters who end up running ...

It's my beef with the Conservative Party and the lack of quality leaders post Harper...

But if I'm picking a side on the US election, I'm going with the one who isn't a convicted felon and sexual preditor who can't keep a company out of bankrupcy...

Especially when the alternative was in the White House and the economy was humming along...
So Telsa sales were pretty much the same as the last 2 years for Q1 sales.
China has cut US film imports in part because of a sagging domestic interest so call me suspecious about the sudden uptick in sales especially considering the contraversy in Canada over the 4 Tesla dealerships selling over 8,000 cars in 3 days on the eve of the tax credits being removed...
President Trump's game of tariffs won't last forever...
A game?

Dunno Doc, the more you post this whaky s*it the more I think of you as our version of Bagdad Bob... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Saeed_al-Sahhaf

Yeah, no major drop in Tesla sales in China. Yet. But with the new tariffs...

Tesla sales are dropping all over Europe though, despite that EV sales in general are increasing.

In terms of goods sold globally, a concern is that the world is deAmericanizing as new trading alliances are being formed and former boogeyman countries like China suddenly seem like a better partner than the US...

The US still dominates services but with the rapid advancement of AI out of China at a fraction of the cost of its competitors in the US those days might be numbered as well..

And the US is now paying more in debt servicing than what they spend on military spending and yet the Republicans are pushing for a spending bill that will add another $5 plus trillion in new debt...

Interesting read on Carney's use of U.S. Treasury bonds to stop tariffs.

Megaterio Llamas wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 12:47 pm So Trump has paused his tariff war for 90 days. This affects all countries that did not retaliate. In the case of China, tariffs remain at 125 percent. The other country that retaliated is Canada...

The chaos is wearing on me at this point.

Why is it wearing on you Megs? You have been pretty much a Trump dude from the start, no? I couldn't care less. It's certainly fractured this place (not you of course) but it's fascinating to see all the Canadians throw their support behind Orange Man. To each their own. I doubt their lives will be affected other than to lick their lips when it hurts someone else.

People got what they asked for with this maniac back in power.

And their answer is to crush a Canadian govt, that dares to speak up. Two separate entities to most normal folks but its hilarious to see the orange puppets bash their own country and support a dictator that has no impact on their life. Like fan boys.
Blob, I am embarrassed by my choice. I really shouldn't be on here trying to defend it.

Good find Cornuck...

Kinda stupid to try to destroy the economies of the countries you are up to your eye balls in debt to, especially when you are still spending like a drunken sailor on borrowed money...

More reason why the obvious choice is to elect Carney...

Yes, exactly. Trump's tech oligarchs must not be happy campers at the moment. Amazon sources 70 percent of its goods from China.

The Musk tweet reminded me of the "don't ever fuck me Tony" scene from Scarface.

Apparently Japan was selling bonds as well. And China owns a ton of US debt so we'll see what happens there.

Trade deficits are inextricably linked to bond sales. When US companies buy foreign goods, it is with US dollars. Eventually those dollars end up as foreign investment in the US (usually T-bills, ie government debt).

So if Trump wants to reduce trade deficits, he's going to have to reduce the budget deficit as well (ie. sell fewer bonds). It seems he's just figuring this out now
