“They’re Scared Shitless”: The Threat of Political Violence Informing Trump’s Grip on Congress - LINK
What a great way to run a country. Interesting times ahead.Political survival is one. Senate and House Republicans know Trump will orchestrate the running of a primary challenger backed by Elon Musk’s unlimited resources if a member defies him. But this is not the whole story of Republican subservience to the president. In private, Republicans talk about their fear that Trump might incite his MAGA followers to commit political violence against them if they don’t rubber-stamp his actions.
According to one source with direct knowledge of the events, North Carolina senator Thom Tillis told people that the FBI warned him about “credible death threats” when he was considering voting against Pete Hegseth’s nomination for defense secretary. Tillis ultimately provided the crucial 50th vote to confirm the former Fox & Friends host to lead the Pentagon.

Politicians everywhere SHOULD live in fear of violence from the electorate IF they have earned the ire of their constituents.Cornuck wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 11:17 am “They’re Scared Shitless”: The Threat of Political Violence Informing Trump’s Grip on Congress - LINK

I do not at all hold with a politician inciting followers to violence just to get his/her way.
However, these people make life altering decisions for the citizens of the country. We live in a world right now where there is very minimal accountability for these people. The spend and regulate us into oblivion on a fucking whim.
See Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson for some thoughts…..
- Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God” (proposed by Franklin for the motto of the Great Seal of the United States).
- “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
- “The more the people are discontented with the oppression of taxes, the greater the need the prince has of money to distribute among his partisans and pay the troops that are to suppress all resistance and enable him to plunder at pleasure.”
- “Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins. Republics…derive their strength and vigor from a popular examination into the action of the magistrates.”
- "When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
Contrast those founding thoughts to the last several years in both of our countries.

Do you think there's a difference between the voters taking issue with a politician's actions and demanding accountability, and having a cult around a leader ready to intimidate politicians?
Or having Musk bankroll an opponent?

Wouldn't it be nice if the public got to vote on each piece of legislation or each issue as opposed to having to take the good with the bad, as we have now? I don't know how or if it could be implemented, but it certainly would be better than what we have now.Mëds wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 10:41 amBCE, you have to understand that Chef, 5th, and Per, are hardcore woke leftists. They don’t understand that you can support a part of a political agenda while condemning other parts of it. You are either all left or all right.
While they love to think that they are centrist in their views they can’t fathom that someone else can be centrist while holding a partially different view…..which pretty much defines centrist.
Corn is the only Liberal Loon around here who can still appreciate what a centrist actually is (and even his rationality has been stretched pretty far by Trump).![]()

Yes. But the long term plan is to incorporate it and make it part of Russia. They already made Lukashenko sign a treaty that has that end goal, but they are not stressing it, because they feel it's already in the bag. Right now they're focusing on Ukraine.

No, AOC had to pick her spots and her funding was darker vs Elon's blunt sledge hammer bank account, but the methods are the same.

So Hegseth has said eight percent in budget cuts each year for the next five years. Massive. Eclipses anything Elon is doing.

What a great way to run the media.
(Of course politicians do from time to time receive death threats. But 30% of this country thinks Trump is going unleash the hounds on dissenters any day now. A source from the former administration who is familiar with a guy who has security clearance says they have reason to fear).
