I think the Dems were kind of doomed on the inflation story. Yes they did an admirable job getting it under control but prices were never going back to pre-covid levels and that's what people remembered and maybe expected. I'm not sure how they could have messaged it better. Biden should have stepped down like he said he would and let a new leader be chosen properly. That would have helped shed the elitist perceptions of the party.Cornuck wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:02 pm To me it seems that the dems had no clue how to get a consistent, easy to digest message out to the masses. Yes- inflation was/is still up - but it was coming down and the US was doing better than almost every country at controlling it. They still have no idea how to talk to the 'masses', and that vacuum was filled by the right. That whole 'hope and happiness' theme blew up in their faces.

Kamala was a DEI hire and an imbecile.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 12:51 pm Kamala is certainly no imbecile. You can't rise to positions of responsibility that she has without being at least somewhat good at what you do. And DEI, yeah maybe a pullback is warranted...

What people seem to miss is that the pre-Covid levels didn't have to change (as drastically as they did). It was, by and large, woke, terrified, reactionary, UN/WHO sycophantic governments, who created the problem. Whether or not the virus was intentionally released, the plans made to deal with it were very much aimed at promoting fear, curtailing freedoms in the name of safety, and driving a bigger wedge into the gap between rich and poor.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:10 pmI think the Dems were kind of doomed on the inflation story. When the government comes along and says, "We're doing this for you because you can't help yourself." The automatic response should be, "Fuck right off and die." Because 9 times out of 10 what they do to help will cost the average tax paying citizen an arm and a leg down the road.

Re: Just Not ready
I'd have to agree- from what I've read about her, she is not outgoing naturally in conversations and interviews. It seemed a lot of her 'post nomination' talks were over the top, fake, and (for most people) a little too much. She's one of the few candidates lately that was experienced in the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of government. She didn't do a lot of work as VP that paid dividends, though - and I think that was her major downfall.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 4:17 pm Oh yeah I've heard that gobbledygook, but that just makes her a fake, not an imbecile.
Re: Just Not ready
I think her downfall was that she spoke in legalese, repeating the same statement 3 different ways in an effort to sound complicated and intelligent.....at the end of the day she often spoke for long periods without saying anything at all. This is, of course, something that politicians are generally great at. Trump doe sit all the time, the difference is that he actually makes it seem like he said something of importance. Kamala couldn't go off script. Fairly unsurprising I suppose, she's a lawyer, used to delivering prepared briefs and speeches more than just winging it.....in contrast to the off-script Don, well, she came across as an imbecile in those regards.Cornuck wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 4:22 pmI'd have to agree- from what I've read about her, she is not outgoing naturally in conversations and interviews. Equality of opportunity is fine. Equality of outcomes is a disaster. Incompetent people making decisions is a real threat to Canada.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 9:51 am So, LGBTQ is the real threat to Canada? To the world!

Agreed. For example, DEI that ensures a diverse pool of applicants for a position is good. DEI that reacts names from applications to make selection for 2nd interview more fair is also good. DEI that has quotas for positions on Boards, C-suite, or senior management, not good. And we're seeing that adjustment happening in the US right now.Tciso wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 4:50 pmEquality of opportunity is fine. Equality of outcomes is a disaster. Re: Just Not ready
Speaking of imbeciles, you should go down the rabbit hole on RFK jr’s life….cuckoooooo! White privileged meets white trash. The Kennedy name carving out the path of a true “imbecile” here. Getting through doors, preordained, a WASP with the help of political divine intervention (Daddy) where even the most educated of “law students” don’t get within sniffing distance of the life laid out for him from crib to death.Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
She began her law career in the office of the district attorney of Alameda County.
Harris was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later to the office of the city attorney of San Francisco.
Kamala was the district attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011.
She was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017.
From 2017 to 2021, Harris served as a U.S. senator representing California.
She served as the 49th vice president of the United States from 2021 to 2025
A member of the Democratic Party, she was the party's nominee in the 2024 presidential election.
I do find it curious, Mëds, whom you deem to be - “an imbecile”. The vitriol seeping from your pores may suggest something else is going on here.
Re: Just Not ready
Ok - this is the CANADA politics thread - let's get back on track.
Re: Just Not ready
Carney is expected to call an election shortly after his Coronation.
Why? The Conservatives have a war chest of cash unlike any Canadian political party has ever seen. They would love to use that cash to define Carney but with an election call comes spending limits locking up that cash.
Expect a media blitz from the Conservatives in the coming days and weeks attacking Carney. There is plenty of fodder.
Carney - fentanyl is a concern, not a crisis
Carney on counter tariffs on steel and aluminum - regular people don't buy steel or aluminum
Carney on carbon tax - products will be cheaper because you can buy carbon credits
Carney on resource development - a history of backing restricting it in Canada while his equity firm profits from investment in foreign resource development
Carney on his investments - silent, but will comply with blind trusts of elected
One wrench that could delay him is the plethora of announcements from sitting Liberals that they will not be running in the next election. Those vacancies will have to be filled.
Interesting that a Toronto area NDP MP announced she will not be contesting her seat in Parliament in order to avoid splitting the vote on the left giving a greater challenge to the Conservatives to take the seat.
If you have been following any of Cooper's work, he ties the Chinese Triads to the Liberal Party and their drug, crime and immigration policies. Also why nothing is being done about foreign interference. Links Trudeau and the PMO faithful's backing of Carney as a perpetuation.
