I thought it was a pretty good game. Canada came blasting on all turbines out of the gate and Sweden was too respectful, playing a reactive rather than proactive game. Canada had a 2-0 lead after the first period, Sweden had only had three shots on goal, and at that point it looked like it might become an embarrassing blowout.

But in the second period Sweden started playing hockey and really challenged Canada. Even though the Swedes were controling the game for the most part, Canada’s counterattacks were very effective and forced Gustafsson to some great saves. The period ended 1-1 and Canada had a 3-1 lead. But Sweden continued to pressure Canada and won the third period 2-0, tying the score at 3-3.

Both teams traded chances in overtime, but the three vs three format seemed to suit Canada better and eventually Marner scored the gwg.

Even though I had hoped for a Swedish win, I was pretty content with them having come back from trailing 2-0 and 3-1 to time the game in regulation and getting at least one point. That point can prove important in the end.

I agree. It was a way better game than I expected. Players play for national pride..

Still seems a bit gimmicky, I am glad they are bringing back the World Cup of Hockey. At least there is a bit of tradition to that. When you can mix a true best on best with national pride and history behind it, you have a real thing.
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.
