Demko, you suck

Post by MrG9002! »

3 shots, 3 goals.!
I admit I need some education on how the salary cap works. If the Canucks were to buy out this Jonah's contract would that payout go against the salary cap or would freeing up his salary free up money to hire a real goaltender?
Lets not forget a 4-1 lead with 8 minutes to go turned into a 5-4 loss in OT.
$5,000,000 a year!!??

Buying him out would indeed cut some costs. However, we would be on the salary cap hook for the cost of the buyout spread out over twice the remaining term at the time of buyout.

We cannot buy him out until the season is over. He has one year remaining after this one. So that’s a $5M hit next season. Buying him out would mean paying him $3.33M. We would then have a $1.67M dead cap hit for next season and the following one.

If they decide to retool, barring an absolutely historic fleecing of trade partners, next year is a write off in terms of contention. In that scenario you’re better off just keeping him and flipping him for assets at the draft or in the summer (best return) or at next deadline (harder).

Sorta. I think it was more in regards to Lankinen being starter calibre making Demko redundant.

Same OP author too, iirc.

But yeah. Same shit.

Threads should be merged…..Corn and Doc not doing their fucking jobs again? I mean, wtf is all that enhanced scurry for? :look:

I’m really proud of us. That must be a record for longest time gone without blaming the goalie.

Chef isn’t exactly enthusiastic about the potential of going back to the goalie graveyard again. I was in immense pain during the Potvin/Cloutier years. It’s a luxury to have, that you don’t know you have until you know longer have it. An under appreciated asset when you got it.

You're not in immense pain now?

Same pain.

Different graveyard.

Tread carefully. Close your eyes and go back into the past on your magic carpet and swirl around the rafters of Roger’s while Potvin or Cloutier are manning the nets. Horrific.

Closing my eyes and thinking of Potvin makes me remember epic Tiger vs Clam battles at the old place.

Demko's had a shitty year for sure, and I'll write that off to injuries and not getting into form. Add in the plyons on D and it's taking him longer to find his game.

My concern now, is that I flinch after any great save and wonder if 'this' is the next injury. Demko will find his game again, I have no doubt - but for how long?

Thanks for the intelligent input on the salary cap education. Appreciated.
