Re: WJC 2025 in Ottawa
It was the little things I saw in the Finn game that revealed some red flags, Blob. I worry these will become more prevalent as the tourney ramps up, not a tight group.
Not a fan of Bonk. Yager is overrated, I agree. Cristall’s skating is a problem for him and why he’s probably not there but has the best hands in junior. Why Sennecke is not there and as well as Misa is beyond me. Both of Parekh and Yakemchuk getting cut is ridiculous.

Willander sure looks like he's rounding into a top pairing Gus Forsling type.
Also quite surprised by how well Basile Sonsonnens plays. Large kid who smothers along the walls. Nice late find by Todd Harvey and Co
I paid for the TSN app to stream the games. What a turd of a platform. Choppy and ghetto

Re: WJC 2025 in Ottawa
Finns beat Yanks in ot after having dominated the game!
Leaving the group wide open again.
Canada beat Finland but lost in ot to Latvia.
USA beat Latvia but lost in ot to Finland.
Assuming everyone beats Germany, that means Canada and the US square off over first place and Finland and Latvia over second.
The loser in the Canada vs US game will finish third, if the game doesn’t go to overtime.
If the game goes to overtime it gets more complicated. The winner still wins the group, but the loser could finish second depending on if they beat the team winning the Finland vs Latvia game or not. And if that game is decided in regulation or ot.

I've been thinking ceiling is a couple of other big steady Swede defenders in Canuck history for Williander.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 11:22 am Willander sure looks like he's rounding into a top pairing Gus Forsling type.

He and Sandin - Pelika were doing the Hughes/Hronek scissors on the PP. Two sister PP goals and a slapper PP shot of the post while QBing the Swede first unit from the centre blue line.

Re: WJC 2025 in Ottawa
Sloppy game by Sweden against Switzerland. First they took a 6-1 lead after two periods, then they take sloppy penalties in the third, letting Switzerland score four power play goals and let the game end an unnecessarily close 7-5.
Willander had a good game though with two goals and a helper. Basically all on the powerplay.
The goal he assisted on is listed as EQ, but the fifth Swiss player had barely entered the ice.
Only 18:01 in ice time tonight, probably because he spent four minutes in the penalty box.

We will get a look at Mynio today. We've heard some high praise from those who follow the prospects, wouldn't it be nice to see yet another promising defense prospect in the pipeline

Is there a bigger Team Canada Hockey homer than Gord “no chin” Miller? He’s the worst.

Cowan is not a very good hockey player. I don’t get it.

I guess when you leave a third of the talent off the team it turns out you're not that good eh.

This is one of the lousier teams I’ve seen assembled. Lifeless and the skill is in short supply.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 6:54 pm I guess when you leave a third of the talent off the team it turns out you're not that good eh.
One unnamed NHL executive ripped into Team Canada for leaving Parekh off the team. I agree.
Whoever picked the players should not be allowed to pick again

In fact Yakemchuk had a good training camp with the Senators. The D is awful on this team.
Sennecke and Cristall should be on the team as well as Misa

Re: WJC 2025 in Ottawa
Canadians are still playing like a collection of hot shot kids who don't believe their shit stinks.
Too much individual effort, keeping the puck for a side of two too long and forcing the play instead of making the smart play to a team mate. The young McKinnen kid comes to mind. Skill up the ying yang but forgets he has line mates.
Forwards circling the offensive zone looking for their own shit instead of dropping to defenders and crashing the net to create a disturbance (the Price goal - anything can happen).
It was more than a Book that hit that kid in the head. Two PP for him to realize that the bumper moved down to the cease and doesn't just sit in the high slot.
There is no way Germany should have been in a one goal game late in the third.
Mynio looked like the seventh defenseman on call up. Safe no nonsense play in limited time. Got the assist on the second goal to put his name on the score sheet. He made a couple of very nice breakout passes into the tape but for whatever reason they were mishandled (Cowan and Ritchie come to mind).

Someone needs to take a flame thrower to the old boy lazy fucks running Hockey Canada. The old guard needs to go, they run it like they do the CBC. It won’t be long until Hockey Canada is as poorly run as Soccer Canada, in fact it already is.
