Good points. Its also why he was traded so much, too. You don't need Ian Cole to fill a defense (no need to invest long term in that particular player), but every team can use a bottom pair D that can play second pair for windows and play both sides of when necessary. He's going to get 1,000 games because despite his limitations and in the moment mistakes, he approaches the game very well, at the very least putting himself in position to succeed. He's not untapped potential to be more; he's the kind of player making the most of what he has.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:57 am He also played on his off side quite a bit. He's going to get a thousand games in for a reason. I'm talking about Ian Cole right now... did I miss the plot?

Yeah with Boeser and Lankinen getting raises and OEL's cap hit going from $2.3M to $4.8M next season I can't see them being able to add much unless the cap jumps drastically.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:57 am
They couldn't bring back the same D when factoring in Hronek's raise. The putrid trade for OEL also made the cap penalty substantially larger. If the teams top two forwards would play like they are the teams top two forwards, a lot of this shit wouldn't be an issue. Pick up a decent D man in the new year, and maybe Wilander gives you some juice after his college season is done.
Don't Benning the future this year but even a WC spot or getting bounced in the first round would be a good season.

Hoglander too will have a cap hit of 3m starting next year. We have to move some bodies to make room for the cap increases. A few entry level contacts will help.dangler wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 11:14 amYeah with Boeser and Lankinen getting raises and OEL's cap hit going from $2.3M to $4.8M next season I can't see them being able to add much unless the cap jumps drastically.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:57 am

I don't expect we will see Lankinen here next year dangler (unless Megs gets his wish which will just fucking collapse the rest of y'all).
I think what we saw with Kevin this year (and DeSmith last) is what Demkos back up will resemble until such time as we can develop our own from within.

I don't expect Silovs or any other goalie prospect within the Canucks organization to resemble Lankinens or Desmiths level of play.donlever wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 2:03 pm I don't expect we will see Lankinen here next year dangler (unless Megs gets his wish which will just fucking collapse the rest of y'all).

We seen how it worked out last year and am confident Allvin doesn't want to witness that again.
Unless he goes to free agency and another team puts forth a extremely high offer I expect we will see heavy kevey back next season.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
We may want him but won't be able to afford him I don't think.
And I agree on our AHL backups.
I just think it will be the "Essensa route" moving forward.
Experienced vets at low end deals.
Hey man, I'd love Lankinen to stick around too.
But he's playing his ass off for a multi million dolllar multi year deal somewhere.
Demko is up after next year as well and he will be looking to cash in.
Only so much goalie money to go around what with our other monetary concerns.
Have to agree to disagree on this one bud.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25
Really get a laugh out of the Arm Chairs out there in the Ethernet trading one of our centres (Miller or Pettersson) for a top 4 D-man with zero fucking centres on the team or in the system to replace them on the top 2 lines. I think we can all agree now that Raty has zero top 2 centre potential. His ceiling is 3rd or 4th line IF he ever pans out. Raty is pretty much our only centre with some NHL potential in the system.
It’s probably the main reason why we haven’t traded one of Pettersson or Miller.
Also, our top 4 D situation is in a much better position than our centre position moving forward, with Willander and his former WJC partner - D-Pete on the way. We will be getting Hronek back for the playoffs.
The focus of the team is too start drafting centres, stock piling them. Management simply cannot waste another top pick on a rental. We will be drafting somewhere between 18th and 24th overall and there a lot of centres getting ranked in the bottom 3rd of the order.

I'd guess Raty and our 1st are who the Baldersons are dangling for a defenseman not EP or Miller.
The only ones speculating on moving those 2 are from the out of town media ie: "eastern bums and creeps"
Probably only BCExpat will know that reference
Looking at the Canucks back end depth, you are correct master chef. I doubt the Canucks are moving any of their top 3 defense prospects (Willander/EP2.0/Mynio) withiut getting an equivalent level d asset back who may be a year or 3 further along.(See Owen power)

No matter how poorly our top two centres are getting along (apparently), there is no way we are trading Pettersson or Miller with how shitty our depth at centre is, presently and in the future.
With a Hronek healing and Willander coming (at season’s end) along with his old running mate -D-Pete playing great in Abby, our D situation moving forward is much healthier looking than our centre situation

I agree they need centres in the worst way. Should be picking a couple early the way the draft is shaping up. I see a player in Raty though. I think he will be a solid middle 6 Centre down the road.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 12:25 pm
