Or is it making it better by raising the bar?
imo yes and no. I want the Abby team to be competitive but they need to be helping prospects grow too, so they can minimize that more at the nhl level. if Friedman who lets be honest has zero growth potential, takes a spot away from a player with upside (Kudryavtsev, for example) that might not be a good thing.
So with Barnnstrom, Friedman, Kudryavtsev, who are the other 5 d-men? They sent some guys down to the echl, and their website doesn't have the roster listed yet.
This was as of yesterday. Maybe it's out of date?

Seventh rounders like KK often find themselves in the ECHL if they are fortunate enough to be signed at all. But based on what I saw, I would be very interested to see him get time in the AHL. Better, however, that he play.

Seeing in the press that Canucks intend to assign Friedman to Abby, which I hadn’t seen earlier. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if PDG is coming up at Tochett’s request.

Really wish the Canucks could move at least one of these similarly situated tweener defensemen with (most likely) limited future upside. Brisebois, Woo, Friedman, Hirose, McWard, Wolanin. And Felton will have a couple months to establish whether his ceiling is there or higher.

I think they are high on McWard. He almost made the team last year. I don’t see a future for Hirose.

Friedman cleared, so how much extra in cap savings does that give the Canucks?

775K once assigned; a total of 1.25 under the cap all in. But that assuming no corresponding call up.

Tocchet mentioned maybe bringing back up Bains. there might not be any cap savings coming

Excellent. Smithers.
What's excellent about it? He's good depth and a quality human.
And he is also $775k of cap accumulation. That is excellent.

I am glad Friedman cleared. I like him too and think he is a good depth 6th-7th guy. His only down side is he's a bit small, but he makes up for it with a high compete & battle lvl. Honestly, I'd take a guy like Friedman and/or Juulsen over Troy Stecher any day.

Last season, we were pretty lucky on the injury front with our D-core. I think only Soucy missed a good chunk of games. Our D usually gets its fair share of injuries, but it prob helped that mgmt brought in a bunch of bigger doods with thick cores (ie: Zaddy, Cole, etc) who can handle the grueling west coast travel with little recuperation time from the 82 game schedule. I know Hronek has never played 80+ games in his career and last season was his first, so the injury bug is prob due to hit him and some of our other guys soon.

If J.Woo can develop into a Friedman/Alex Biega someday, I'd be happy.

The Bs picked up Korpisalo in the offseason, so with Swayman back in the fold, the Bs had to waive Patera.

Bains is awful. AHL Sheldon Dries type player. There's a pile of hot garbage for forwards on the farm.,There's decent depth D. But when a team is a tire fire from 2015-2022 one might think they accrue some young assets. Good Old Elms. Hopefully he's in a home now playing checkers with Gohmert.

Doyle Dawg, Bennings last official draft was 2021, that class are either career AHL’ers by now or made the grade or moved on to Europe or tweeners like Karlsson. What you see on the farm now is all Allvin and Ruth’s doing and those two get rid of draft picks like they are going out of style, they can’t get rid of them fast enough and because of this willy nillying of our draft capital the Canucks for the foreseeable future will be proud owners of the leagues worst draft pipeline.

So you expect 18-21 year old kids to be making an impact in the AHL by now? I don't know what to say here? Lekkerimäki and D Petey are there. Most of the other kids are in junior, college or overseas. From 2018 -2021- the Elmos drafted Hughes and Hoglander and a 3rd string goalie. Drafting scrubs like Klimovich, with a Kamloops kid on the board hurts. He's doing ok in Dallas but maybe he's too short? They drafted Ryan Seminoff's kid as well. He will play. That Jim Nill knows what he's doing. I am disgusted with the Canucks over the last 20 years ignoring Western Canadian talent.

Allvin has had to backfill the previous draft blunders and signings with college kids that we all know will flame out. Judge his drafting and development a couple years from now. You still complain about Eye Bags who go canned a decade ago. Pull your head out of your ass and start fighting for some air.

And this incessant whining about Allvin pissing away all these picks is hilarious. He's drafted 18 players the last three years. Elmo picked 20 players his last three years with Hoggy as the best pick. Picks have had to been traded away to clean up of the piles of puke that were left behind like OEL,,Dickinson, Poolman etc.

With Abby currently carrying eleven D it's going to be tough to get Kudryavtsev and Eriksson into the lineup. Work needs to be done to move some veteran bodies out of there. I'm curious to see which players get into the lineup for the season opener tonight in Calgary.
