Cousin gets it. Shit, he must be stone cold sober...

We just be talkin'. TALKING. DISCUSSION.

But the major point some are trying to make is upgrading weak positions, using collateral where we are stronger. This management has already alluded to making their situation more flexible for possible upgrades down the line... which means some bodies will eventually need to be moved.

Case in point, last season our D corp was NHL Strong. The Baldies have focused on fixing the forward/winger depth with multiple signings this summer. Now we have more forward bodies than we seemingly need. But these are now your bottom D-pairings:

Myers Soucy
Desharnais Forbort
-----
Juulsen Friedman
AHL scrubs

You DO NOT want 82 games from these 2nd and 3rd pairings if you actually fancy yourself a contender capable of getting past the second round. At the same time, you DO NOT want any injuries to these same pairing as that means lots of games and minutes from those below the dash line. There have been some rumours now of looking for more D depth, with the most recent being Victor Soderstrom from Utah who was drafted #11 between Podkolzin and Boldy.

Tocchet deep dive

Some good stuff from Rick

Really happy we have him as the coach

He tells things as they are and does not shy away from saying the harsh truth

Most here (all?) won't much like it but there is a decent amount of Tyson Barrie chatter on socialwbez....

One thing I love about Tocchet is how much thought he puts into his responses in the media. He doesn't rely on typical interview clichés, plastic language and other crutches. He has his code-/buzz-words but he has a candor that a lot of coaches either don't have, or don't bother to use. It will be an interesting camp this Fall.

Good interview - having someone ask decent questions makes for better answers.

A few comments on the Ricky interview. He reconfirmed many of the things he has said earlier.

He realizes he was out coached in the later stages of the Oilers series.

He again admits he stifled creativity of the players.

Scooter boy is a prima donna who is hopefully putting in the off season work and listening to what the coaches are feeding him. All hell will break loose if he can't get it together with DeBrusk. Once again, fitness is brought up as an issue. Sounds like there may have been a sulking disconnect between Ricky and the Scooter Boy over various issues. Bury me not at wounded knee ...

CoHog is a spare part after the FA signings.

Deharnais takes Juuls spot as the Foote/Gonchar rehab project.

No doubt. This reporter put in the time and asked thought provoking questions, and Tocc provided detailed answers.

A number of things stood out. He holds himself and his staff accountable to review the tape and provide new ideas to reward the players for buying into the 101, to find and allow opportunities for more offence.

As hard as he pushes the players and demands accountability, he maintains an open door policy encouraging his guys to make their own demands. It’s a two-way street that today’s player/coach relationship allows for success.

Tocc’s approach to selling Vancouver to FA’s. He’s part of the signing process and fully discloses the players position in their career, providing details as to how he can help them become the best they can be, and ultimately cash in.

Strength coach traveling to Sweden to help Petey. Management continues to provide every resource possible to assist the players be the best they can be, no matter the time of year.

Good mid summer read.

Hopefully Scooter asks the questions: how did the twins go from constantly pulling guard to having 100% takedown defence at around the same age? What were their training methods?

There is an interview Raisin did with McClown where he discusses what the Sedins have been doing in the org and how they quietly have improved some guys including one mighty Piglet's defensive acumen. I'm just reporting, don't shoot at me from rooftops.
