No shit. I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would be happy about that.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 7:03 pmThis fan base and media clickers needs to move on from the 9million albatross that is about to happen.
No way do we want this contract.

Do a sign-n-trade deal with the Canes to get an 8-yr deal to bring down the AAV.
$8M x 8.
The first 5 years will probably go well.
Then ship him off to Robidas Island.

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
The team took a significant down turn last season when Joshua was injured. Maybe management has a plan to replace the grit this team seems to be losing, but Jake Guentzel as a smaller, not particularly fast sniper taking around nine million of cap space on the wrong side of the age chart seems like a bad idea to me. That signing would have more Barry Pederson type downside risk than up side. Pettersson has played best with Miller and Kuzmenko, guys that go to the net and score in tight. I’m not as certain as the media seems to be that Guentzel will work particularly well with Pettersson. Management should be looking for physical forwards with skill, guys that create a bit of havoc around the net, and score ugly goals, young Corey Perry types.

Sounds like you are referring to Brady Tkachuk.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 5:05 am The team took a significant down turn last season when Joshua was injured. That and offer an extra year for Myers, Zadorov and Blueger types.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:14 pm Do a sign-n-trade deal with the Canes to get an 8-yr deal to bring down the AAV.

Example:
Myers asking for $3mil per next 2, offer $7.5 over 3
Zadorov asking for $5 mil per next 5, offer $28mil over 6.
Something like that to bring down their cap hits.
Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
Yep this is what I think will happen. Likely some negotiating on what the compensation will be behind closed doors, but the Canes lose leverage every day that goes by towards July 1 so I suspect if this does happen it will be mid/late next week. I'm not worried about 8 years, it's definitely too long but so much can and will change over that time so worry about it in 5-6 years.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 9:14 pm Do a sign-n-trade deal with the Canes to get an 8-yr deal to bring down the AAV.

Can't see signing Zadorov if the team is going after Guentzel as he's a luxury we can't afford. Lots of cheaper options who offer 80% of what Z does so no reason to overpay, let the leaves or some other team do that. I figure Blueger is back, likely on a 2-3 year term in the low $2 million range. Myers I'm wondering about now given what we're hearing in reports - perhaps they have their eyes on another big d-man that would be cheaper? There's a few available in the market this year that are younger and can do the same job, so perhaps they are putting the squeeze on Tyler.
Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
I'm sure it's been in the works for a bit. Interesting that he's likely trying to trade him in order to get Z, another one of his clients, signed here! I'm guessing he's traded for another player under contract, not quite as expensive and perhaps somebody that can play a bit. Supposedly Mathieu Joseph in Ottawa is available for a cap dump as he makes $3 million a season and they don't want him - somebody like that makes sense to me.theman wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:19 am Hopefully he is successful

Vegas has apparently told Mantha that he is not coming back, would he be an option here?
Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
I like that deal. IM65 for Joseph makes sense for the Canucks, especially if there's an idea about how the $1.8M in cap savings gets deployed. Good speed, decent forechecker, quality penalty killer. A similar profile to IM65; I think IM65 plays with a bit more hockey IQ that should allow him to effectively play with skilled players if his skating comes back and his shooting percentage gets out of the tank -- a second liner ceiling if that happens. Joseph I think is a better penalty killer and probably has a game that (IMO) maxes out in the bottom 6, but I can see how he might fit better in Tockey hockey and I think his penalty killing can't be overlooked, especially for a team that hasn't signed its top 3 TOI/gm forward PKers (Lindholm, Blueger, Joshua).Diehard1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:25 amI'm sure it's been in the works for a bit. But why does this make sense for the Sens? Joseph might be overpaid by $500K AAV or so -- and there's always a question of how much should you be paying bottom 6 ceiling wingers ever -- but IM65 is overpaid by at least $1M AAV more than that and has a higher downside risk regardless of salary. The Sens would have to value the agent connection significantly (but why would they? Z seems like his own man), or think Joseph is a bit of a cancer (I've never heard this, but don't follow them too closely).

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
I'm not entirely sure why the Sens want to get rid of Joseph, though the fly in the ointment may be that they need to clear cap to go after somebody else so can't take on Mikheyev. That was just an example anyway, we'll see who else might be available that they could trade Ilya for.UWSaint wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 9:31 amI like that deal. More depth getting signed
General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with forward Linus Karlsson and defenceman Cole McWard on one-year, two-way contracts.
