Broberg did have an awesome training camp with the oilers prior to the play in. Big guy and the best skater in the draft, I wouldn’t right him off just yet.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 4:52 pm He dropped because of the Russian factor. He was generally regarded as the 3rd or 4th best prospect in the draft. Combined with him being Russian and Teams ahead of us targeting D-men - Detroit - Seider and Edmonton - Broberg. Not hearing good things about Broberg, apparently it’s between the ears with him, sounds like a Virtanen
Zegras is a good player but he’s a smallish centre (6’ - 170 lbs) which we didn’t need. IMO Podkolzin will be better than Cozens and Turcotte. A little early to judge Hughes and Kakko but they both didn’t have very good rookie seasons. Byram who knows. The top 10 of 2019 was very good which benefited us, we were picking right before that tier group ended.
Soderstrom looks very good, would not complain if we had him, looks like the Stars have a beauty in Harley and the Sens have a good one in Thomson but other than that wouldn’t want anything else who was drafted after Pod. In fact Pod was the best pick at 10th. Boldy had an awful season

Broberg sounds like Darnell Nurse. All the physical tools, no place to put them.
Nurse, Broberg, Bouchard... can anyone defend?
Same old Oilers model, their rebuild isn’t going very fast.

And not just the usual Russian factor right?
The team drafting him knew he wouldn't be coming over for 2 years.
No doubt these things were the reason the Pod fell to Lord Benning's waiting clutches.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
The odd thing is I heard the opposite regarding Broberg on a recent analysis done on their prospects on Team 1040. Button didn’t even have him in his top 50 NHL affiliated prospect list. There are definitely some out there who don’t like Broberg at all and it all has to do with his hockey sense. Bouchard was getting slammed for his skating in that report. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:12 pm Broberg is coming along fantastic. Hear about it on coiler radio all the time. And that’s definitely the right call over newhook and another second rounder. You win with guys like podkolzin in the playoffs, Judd doesn’t understand that yet.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:20 pmAnd not just the usual Russian factor right?

Benning rushed Virtanen and McCann and learned from that. I think he now generally wants all his picks to play the D+1 season at a lower level, so I don’t think he minded Podkolzin being two years away as much as other GMs who are hoping for immediate saviours.

Nope he’s garbage. The book is written on him already. Kinda like the one on Bowen Byram. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:12 pm Broberg is coming along fantastic. And, that's part of long term cap management. We'll be happy to have him on our 2nd line, getting those big time ELC paychecks just as the Hughes/Petersson contracts kick in.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:20 pmAnd not just the usual Russian factor right?

It's like there was a plan, or something.

Btw... in the game on the 21st, when Höglander had a goal and assist, Rögle (his team) still lost 4-3 in ot against Växjö.
In that game the game tying and ot game winning goals were both scored by a guy by the name of Emil Pettersson...
He has a contract with Växjö for 2020/21. Do the Coyotes still own his NHL rights?
Emil had a 0.63 ppg average in the AHL.

But at that point he will be 27 never having made the NHL.
Elias is a billion times better than his older brother Emil.
