I don't want to change it because it's worked well but the old school hockey mentality part of me hates playing for the tie.Per wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 11:59 amYeah, that’s what most leagues do. 3 pts for a regulation win, 2 pts for ot or so win, 1 pt for ot or so loss, 0 pts for a regulation loss.Cherry Picker wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 11:54 amI agree in some ways. Too many times teams want to get to overtime to get that single point. If they are going to have three points available in games that go to OT (two for the winner and one for the loser), they should give all three points to the team that wins in regulation. I think teams would try harder to win in regulation and those chess match type games would get more exciting.

I also like the system where the team finishing last gets demoted and replaced with a team from the second tier.
That way you eliminate the possibility of tanking on purpose. Being demoted is hell. Takes away most of the teams revenue, so nobody wants to end up last, and the teams at the bottom of the standings are fighting for their lives.

damn whats going on in AZ??
Chayka was going to go into the bubble with the Coyotes as late as last Thursday, but after they couldn’t reach an agreement on a “transition plan,” Chayka terminated his contract on Friday.
Hayka: I love our players, coaches, staff and fans and I very much wish I could be with the team in Edmonton. Sadly, the situation created by ownership made that an impossibility.
“That’s all I intend to say on this matter for now. A fuller, more detailed explanation may be necessary in the near future.”
https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-news-some-fal ... 020/07/27/One source said that Chayka asked for permission to pursue another opportunity that wasn’t with another NHL team and that six weeks ago he asked for his release. Another source said that is not true.
“John Chayka is a liar and a quitter,” the source said.
The source said that another team approached the Coyotes and Chayka told ownership that he’d been allowed to talk to other teams in the past. Ownership was upset and said that now isn’t the time.
“There’s this narrative that members of this organization started to take job functions away from John like talking to players and agents, but the reality is John abandoned the organization,” the source said.

The Edmonton Oilers will have to surrender a third-round pick to the Calgary Flames after all.
The NHL ruled the Oilers must transfer either their 2020 or 2021 third-rounder to Calgary to complete last summer's James Neal-Milan Lucic deal, the Flames announced Friday.
Edmonton will have until the third round of the 2020 draft to make its decision.

Nah. Just have the team that gets promoted kick in $650 million, like the McKrakens just did. That will sort out who is serious and who just wants a free trip to the NHL.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:16 pmKeep that shit in Europe.Per wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:40 pm I also like the system where the team finishing last gets demoted and replaced with a team from the second tier.

I'm with you Per. Gives the NHL a way to expand and for teams that struggle to downgrade their talent without losing their franchise. It would provide a means for Kansas City, Quebec and others to have franchises without diluting the player base. There are financial issues you would need to work through (i.e. Seattle and Vegas would have a reasonable greivance, but you could do things like require funds to be put in escrow for x period in the event of promotion, you could freeze the junior league for five years before allowing the promotion playoffs, etc.Per wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 2:51 pmGuess you love to watch teams tank on purpose.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:16 pmKeep that shit in Europe.Per wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:40 pm I also like the system where the team finishing last gets demoted and replaced with a team from the second tier.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Got nothing to do with that. It just isn’t feasible here. There’s no 2nd division, the AHL is a feeder league. The logistics of setting up something like English Premier League here would be staggering. It will never happen..Per wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 2:51 pmGuess you love to watch teams tank on purpose.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:16 pmKeep that shit in Europe.Per wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:40 pm I also like the system where the team finishing last gets demoted and replaced with a team from the second tier.

There are no logistics - the AHL is already a second tier league, it would take a Cinderella miracle on ice for an AHL team to beat the worst NHL team in a relegation tournament.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 6:40 amGot nothing to do with that. The relegation tournament's purpose isn't to have a realistic shot for the Calder Cup winner to advance to the NHL, it's to discourage teams from tanking.
Maybe, in five years, KC and Quebec get ahl teams with rich owners who invest in trying to earn promotion, but that's the kind of long-term thinking that the NHL, as a rule, doesn't do.
The real issue is the greed barrier - owners won't open up their clubs to new owners who buy their way in by paying players and creating a competitive team, rather than paying the governors hundreds of millions of dollars.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
The AHL is a farm league for the NHL. It isn’t a seperate 2nd tier league
So if Tampa’s AHL squad wins that league, they move up with all Tampa’s prospects and they play in the NHL the following year. Makes perfect sense. Sounds like some logistics would be involved.
It will never happen and thank Christ for that

Yeah. Could you imagine the meltdowns over at HF when we lost all our prospects due to that.....they would almost certainly blame Benning for not drafting players who were NHL ready immediately so they would already be on the Canucks.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:06 am The AHL is a farm league for the NHL. It’s becoming more and more clear that Per has difficulty coping with ways of life that are different than his own little pseudo-socialistic Euro-bubble. He wants everywhere to be just like Europe.
