How do they do it in Sweden Per? Do all candidates grab their swords and axes and just have a good old fashioned viking honor tournament? Last man standing in each riding gets the seat?
Well, sort of. We have a 4% threshold, so a party with 3% of the vote gets no seats, and thus 15% might actually give you closer to 16%, but you get the drift.

When Assange released that last batch, right before the election, and the FBI director somehow was pressed into going public and saying the investigation was re-opened, in breach of FBI tradition, that says they should not comment on ongoing investigations and they should not make statements that can influence an election. Right there is when Hillary lost.Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 11:52 amRight?Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 3:37 pm I see.
And is there any proof that the Russkies managed to get so much as one single voter to change his/her vote?
In fact one could argue the whole affair had the opposite effect on American voters as a whole.
Rumours that "My orange hero" was in bed (figuratively + literally) with the Russkies may have led many Yanks to vote against him.
And I don’t think many were swayed to switch candidate, more that a bunch of people that were leaning towards Hillary stayed home and refrained from voting.
And the talk about Trump colluding with the Russians was mainly after the fact, when the election was over, so no, that did not hurt him the slightest.
Of course he didn’t deserve to win. But, why do I bother, no one will ever convince the orange-man-bad TDSers that Lord Trump deserved to win the election.
A fundamental concept in a democracy is that the candidate that gets the most votes win.
I know no other country where the candidate that has less votes can be considered to have won the election.
It’s caused by the US sticking to a relict of the past, the electoral college, which was concieved in a day and age when holding a national election in such a huge country was There were no flights, no radio, no telephones, heck, even no internet. Instead they let each state elect representatives that would then elect the president. It’s an outdated concept that ought to have been thrown on the ash heap of history in the early 20th , so that the people could be allowed to elect the president of their choice.

Trump and Hilly were in an electoral college battle. Trump won.
If Trump and Hilly were in some other kind of battle, Trump would have won that too.

No. Just pointing out that a country that does not respect the wish of the people can hardly call itself a democracy.

Hundreds, I guess?
But only eight in parliament.
From left to right, result in 2018 and seats in parliament:
Vänsterpartiet (V) ”the left party” 8.00% 28 (used to be communists, now socialists)
Socialdemokraterna (S) ”the social democrats” 28.26% 100 seats
Miljöpartiet (Mp) ”the environment party” 4.41% 16 (our green party)
Centerpartiet (C) ”the centre party” 8.61% 31 seats (originally ”the farmers’ union, now liberals with a rural twist)
Liberalerna (L) ”the liberals” 5.49% 20 seats
Moderaterna (M) ”the moderates” 19.84% 70 seats (call themselves moderates but is our conservative party)
Kristdemokraterna (Kd) ”the christian democrats” 6.32% 22 seats (religious conservatives - our tea party)
Sverigedemokraterna (Sd) ”the Sweden democrats” 17.53% 62 seats (far right anti immigration party founded by nazis)
Others 1.53% but no seats (biggest of these is The Feminist Initiative that gained 0.47% of the vote)
Normally the left party, social democrats and the green party stick together while the centre party, liberals, christian demodrats and moderates formed an Alliance, and these two groups have taken turns running the country.
With the Sweden Democrats entering the picture it got complicated. The other parties shun them because of their neonazi past.
After the 2018 elections, the Alliance could have formed a government if they had let in the Sweden Democrats, but the two liberal parties (centre party and liberals) refused to do this and instead switched side, abandoning their traditional conservative allies to instead back a social democratic minority government.

I know he's a busy man but he should probably work on finishing them.

Yes Bligh survived the mutiny was honourably acquitted upon return to England and went on to become Govenor of New South Wales and was again deposed and again vindicated by the courts.
Bligh was right throughout his trials.

Really loved Anthony Hopkins in that role. Great flick
The high pitched, nasally wussbag that Brando played as Fletcher Christian in the older version ruined that one for me
