We're All Doomed!™ (the Conquest, War, Famine, and Death Thread)

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

But the questions remains at what cost to people. Now I think a lot of what is being done now is too little too late. I think Italy is a total overreaction and not realistic for a country with so many borders to other countries. Now Portugal and Spain are following suit. I believe that what Europe is doing is trying to get a reduction in new cases to coincide with tourist season, sacrificing the shoulder season in its place.

School closures are controversial given the impact on child caring adults. While in Europe there are some restrictions internally, and while more is needed, how do you find a balance between what Itayl is doing and what the UK is not?
It's too late to contain it, but not too late to slow the spread. We need to slow it to lower the peak load on hospitals, staff, and equipment. If we can draw it out over a longer period of time, everyone can get a bed and equipment if they need it. Italy's hospitals were overwhelmed to the point of triage decisions on who gets a respirator/ventilator and who doesn't. This caused needless deaths which we want to avoid.

Unfortunately the US is going the way of Italy as they reacted late. I believe it's about a 10% hospitalisation rate, so for the US this projects to all hospital beds being filled by about May 10th. After that, you're fucked (unless you're rich).
Italy has a high percentage of seniors. I wonder what the rate is compared to the rest of the world. The UK's position is to do exactly what you suggest.Draw outing stagger the sickness so resources are not spread to thin. And you are right. its too late to contain.

Canada today asked for a voluntary ban on all non essential travel to anywhere in the world. They are trying to contain returnees from March break. They specifically mentioned the US as a place to avoid during March break. All in an effort to keep people from coming back sick. But they haven't issued a government travel advisory so this fucks people over with their insurance. If they issue a formal advisory people would comply more readily because they would get an insurance refund. But they insurance industry advised against that because it will hurt their bottom line.

We as a rule we are selfish, our own interest come first. Im staying home for two weeks even though its highly unlikely I have C-19 but because it is the smart thing and considerate thing to do. I have a friend who is supposed to go the Germany in two weeks but without the Gov issue a travel advisory she cant cancel., well she can but she will lose a lot of money. Money she cant afford to lose. To add to that Germany doesn't have a federal law allowing the gov to impose restrictions. They can advise but it is up to each district to decide. Most have not followed the advice.

The rest of my kids' hockey seasons were cancelled yesterday. One had a practice remaining, the other a tournament (Vancouver Minor Rec Hockey Classic in late March). No biggie but would've liked to do another tournament. FVE banner day was supposed to be this weekend.

My wife is currently in the Superstore queued up for 1 hr to get to the cashier. When she gets home I guess we'll be in lockdown mode for a while. I think it'll be a nice time to spend with the family at home, except there's no hockey on. Luckily I can work from home.

Yep - same here. Nothing says 'self-quarantine' like working from home in rural Nebraska. :D At least now, I have a name for it.

Canada has now issued a formal global travel advisory to avoid all non essential travel until further notice. People can still enter the country but only through specific airports and may be subject to mandatory 14 quarantine upon entering.

This is one of the broadest advisories in the world but does not prevent anyone from entering. I think Canada is trying to keep everyone home for March break to prevent people from bringing the virus back on mass.

Hargraves will not be able to work from home. He has to be onsite. Guess the time to go to the grocery store and liquor store might be first thing in the morning

Nahhhh when I morning drink it’s usually something I purchased the day before.

The booze delivery price is a kick straight in the nuts with a frozen gum boot

And just like that Skip the Dishes sends this out:

The health and safety of our customers, restaurant partners, and couriers is of the utmost priority. With the ongoing news of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Canada, SkipTheDishes is taking additional precautions across our network in addition to the recommendations and guidelines set out by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of Canada.

Sealed Takeout Bags
We have encouraged our restaurant partners to seal all takeout bags. This limits added exposure and the potential for unnecessary contact.

Suspending Cash Orders
We will be suspending the cash payment option for all orders. Contactless payment options allow all users to reduce contact with surfaces known to aid in the spread of COVID-19.

Contactless Delivery
You can request Contactless Delivery by leaving a note after selecting “Deliver To My Door” at checkout. Make sure you use the live order tracker and collect your food when it’s marked as “Delivered.”

In the next week, we’ll release a new feature to make Contactless Delivery as seamless as possible.

Our Role In The Community
We take an active role in the communities we operate in — that’s why we will support local public health authorities in their response to confirmed cases and exposure risks of COVID-19. We will continue to provide updates on issues that may potentially affect the health and safety of our network in a timely manner.

These are only the initial steps in our mandate to support the health and safety of our communities during these cautionary times. We are committed to being proactive while we navigate the evolution of COVID-19, and to providing a food delivery experience our users can be confident in.

For the latest recommendations and guidelines, please visit the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of Canada.

Thank you,
The SkipTheDishes Team

So my wife just got back from Superstore and it's fucking unbelievable what's going on.

Apparently there's a social media rumour that Superstore will close in 2 days due to coronavirus, so everyone is piling in. All the Costco shoppers who are tired of fighting in the aisles over there are also spilling over into Superstore. The lineup is 50 minutes just to get to the person who assigns you to a cashier, where you get into another lineup. And of course everyone's cart is heaped to overflowing, and that's even with a TP limit of 2!

In the pasta aisle multiple employees are restocking shelves, which are emptying just as fast. People just milling about waiting for the next load to arrive from the back. Same thing in the canned good aisle. I had asked her to get me some UHT milk for my coffee but that was long gone. You're down to almond milk now! Meat is pretty much slim pickings.

We had a good laugh over it all. It's hilarious when people lost their shit like this. The bad side is that everyone is downright rude. All manners gone out the window.

Lol I’ll try in the morning. It’s bad enough in Poco before this shit and we get all the tards from Ridge who have no shopping out there. There’s no need for people to act like this. The store will restock their shelves. Bunch of greedy inbreds thinking the stores can’t bring in more goods.

They will probably have to limit the amount of shoppers they let in to grocery stores pretty quickly
