Muzac For Munsters

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Good find.
Saw the Clash twice, at the Commodore and at the Areanex, but never the Mescaleros. I was living in Belize back then
Saw the Pogues with Joe Strummer singing in place of Shane MacGowan who was in rehab. A memorable show. They did about 4 clash songs. The Clash’s Straight To Hell with the Pogues as the band and Strummer singing was a live music highlight for me.
That would have been fun. Missed it.

The first Mescaleros show, they a lot of Clash songs, the 2nd time, I'm not sure if they did any.

The Areanex? At Kerrisdale?

^^The Shocking Blue video lacks only go go girls dancing in bird cages and slightly better lip synching.

Besides that though, perfect :D

The Music Machine's epic cover version of Neil Diamond's classic Cherry Cherry.

Features signature flute playing and baddass fuzz guitar plus, you guessed it. Go go girls.

No birdcages yet though. They're coming :D

Areanex was a building at the PNE. It was a larger version of a highschool gym. Stage at one end, massive floor space, bothers on one side. Also saw the Police there when the Specials opened and blew them out of the water. Also caught Know Jackson there.

Ok - saw a few shows there, guess I never knew the name. The Clash played the Kerrisdale Arena (Combat Rock tour).

That’s where I saw the Pogues with Strummer. It’s the building right at the north east corner of Hastings and a Renfrew?

Saw the Clash when they opened up for the Who in Seattle. The Clash was by far the better show. Amazing live act

When I was in Iowa in 1981/82 no one had even heard of the Clash. :(

I bought London Calling to the kid in the host family, but he was unimpressed. Preferred REO Speedwagon and AC/DC.

Heathens.

The day they played the Commodore, I read something about them and it being their first North American show. Hopped a bus downtown and had to sneak into the the show because I was underage.

Fuck I miss the Commodore. Jerry Jeff Walker played his entire set three times and finally told everyone he was done and it was time to go home. The horsehair was alive that night. Lucinda Williams tore up her set list saying " so you guys like the blues" then launched into an incredible show. She had her song book on an easel and flipped pages between songs, just playing what she felt we wanted to listen to. Her guitar techs were going crazy trying to keep up. Some songs, her band had never heard. The Replacements left me black and blue as did DOA.

There was also a club in Gastown near the Woodward's parkade, can't remember the name.

Joe Ely played the Blarney Stone one night but I was too drink to remember any of it.
