Didn't you already sell it to Cominco or whoever?

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said "well, a-bless my soul"
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

New trade deadline deal if Tanev and Markstrom sign extensions in the next week. I’m assuming Markstrom would be demanding protection from the expansion draft if he signs, meaning Demko would likely be lost.
Detroit gets Demko, Baertschi, RFAs Stecher, RFA Tryamkin, and UFA Schaller
Canucks get RFA Bertuzzi, UFA Green, Bernier
The Canucks would get an top six asshole winger for the long term.
Green would just finish off this season hopefully help in the playoffs and then move along. Rafferty or Woo would replace Stecher next year.
Bernier would be here as a decent $3000000 back-up this season and next when his contract expires when the expansion draft happens. Hopefully DiPietro would be ready to backup after that. He doesn’t need protection for the expansion draft.
Detroit would get a young starting goalie and two depth defensemen going forward.
Schaller and Baertschi would get a chance to compete and perhaps extent their NHL careers with that club. Also moving Baertschi would help relieve cap pressure for next season.
Of course if Markstrom or Tanev don’t sign team friendly extensions this week, this deal is off. The Canucks would want Demko to be their starter next year and would also likely want Stecher, and Tryamkin as a fall back, if Tanev doesn’t resign.

Wouldn't it be easier just to make a deal with Seattle involving picks and/or prospects for them to NOT pick Demko. Maybe send Dipietro plus a couple of picks (not 1st round) their way. They still get to pick our next best unprotected player, though I'm not sure who that might be.

It’s hard getting a good asshole, and we only need one starter. Demko won’t want to be back-up to Markstrom for much longer.

True - but if we can trade him for an equally promising young Dman, so much the better. I'd hate to see him go in the expansion draft.Cherry Picker wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 2:56 pm It’s hard getting a good asshole, and we only need one starter. Totally. If you can extract the asset for Demko (1st rounder or a good young player) make the deal. Markstrom isn’t a flash in the pan. He’s the real deal. He’s a leader and he’s popular. He has fairly low miles for a 30 year old. Depends on the dollars but unless he’s demanding something unrealistic, sign him up. You have a year + to trade Thatcher.Cornuck wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 3:06 pmTrue - but if we can trade him for an equally promising young Dman, so much the better. I’m a Demko fan but at the end of the day these guys are all tradeable for an improvement. Petey and Quinton are the only untouchables on my team.
I’ll qualify this by saying Im ok going with Demko and a 1B guy next year like Halak or Greiss if they choose to go that route but it isn’t my preference. Goaltending on this team is top 5 in the league. That’s not a bad thing.

Yah, I agree going forward with either goalie is fine. I probably prefer Demko because of age. But trading Demko for a young player of equal value and going with Markstrom is preferable to losing Markstrom for nothing as a UFA and only having one player, Demko.

Ok so Ferkland is done for the year and Benning will almost certainly be making a move for a comparable type of player....what is out there, what is realistic and how can the canucks afford it?
Does MFs contract go into the LTIR thus spotting us 3.5? Is he already on LTIR?
Is the Wayne Train pulling into station? Can he actually help? The guy could barely skate in his prime so wtf is he going to bring at this stage?

I’d be inclined to stick with what they have rather than spend assets for Simmons.
If they make the playoffs, I’m not really expecting them to win the cup (though I’d love to see it)
The team is so young, so the goal should be to get playoff experience and then start going for playoff success next year and beyond. Simmons doesn’t help with that.
I’d be more inclined to see Benning make a hockey trade that helps the team long term.
Something like what we talked about above: Boeser for Dobson, or Bertuzzi for Demko if Marky resigns.
Now if Simmons comes here really cheap and creates cap space going forward that would be okay, but otherwise give some minutes to MacEwen, Bailey and Lind and let them have a taste. They are the ones who have a chance to be with the club long term.

A 7 game series is going to see whoever we play taking runs at Pettersson and Hughes. Thats 150% guaranteed and unless we have some tougher soldiers to counter that it'll end in injury. We cant have that these kids need someone to step in there.Cherry Picker wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 7:44 am I’d be inclined to stick with what they have rather than spend assets for Simmons.

Getting bitch slapped around does absolutely nothing for the confidence of a twiggy kid.
The Wayne Train can potentially be that piece and will most likely come for a 3rd rounder at the most.

What else is out there though? Whoever it is needs to be capable of playing 15-20 minutes a night in a limited top 6 roll. They'll need some hands to score and scrap.
Marcus Foligno works, Gary Coleman? If Vegas tanks is Reaves available? (not likely)
Who else? Casey Czazikas?
