It's incredible, everyone has known this cap problem was coming for a year...
....and its like Dubas has no plan for how to deal with it. He didn't have a plan last July, he doesn't have one now. He's lost all of his UFAs, and he's back to having two RFAs getting in the way of locking in Marner.
Maybe the plan is to just take the 1st rounders on a Marner offer sheet?

Well, Dubas has already gone on record as going from "we're keeping all of our young guys" to "we're open to all options, including letting Marner go".
They declared themselves contenders, grabbing Tavares and Marleau but now are willing to get picks back? That's not going to help them contend in the next few years while Matthews is closer and closer to bolting to the desert.
That's what Leaves fans like Tuna fail to comprehend.

I suspect that it is. Honestly Sakic got jobbed in this trade by Dubas, there had to have been more out there in exchange for Barrie. The Avs management and their fans will quickly tire of Kadri's lack of self control, and a team that was gelling so nicely just moved a core piece out for a problem child in.....and Sakic even retained half of Barrie's salary.
This was a great trade for Dubas. Event though it doesn't answer the Marner question.
Sakic still has a TON of cap space to play with, my bet is that Colorado offer sheets Marner and the Leaves have to walk away and just take the draft picks.
So really Dubas just got a couple of pieces for Kadri, Rosen, and the loss of Marner.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

You just know...sakic is coming out on top next summer.
I suspect Barrie let it be known to JS in confidence of his intentions to play for his hometown. I also suspect Joe tried to pry something decent out of Benning knowing this and didnt like the return which is why he got what he could as fast as he could before the cats out of the bag.
