I don’t have the top 10 in the same order you do, and I think that some team grabs Broberg in the top 10 but let’s say it’s close.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 6:50 am 1. Hughes

Broberg is a mystery, big smooth skating player but zero offence, sounds like a Tanev which isn’t a bad thingDiehard1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:16 pmI don’t have the top 10 in the same order you do, and I think that some team grabs Broberg in the top 10 but let’s say it’s close.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 6:50 am 1. Of the next 5 or so guys I would choose one of (not in order):
1) Newhook- hard to judge given level of competition, but lightning fast guy who may not have quite the hockey sense others do
2) Soderstrom - very steady RHD
3) Brink - again lightning fast, good hockey sense but on the small side
4) York - top D from the USNTDP
I suspect one of the top 10 guys outlined will fall and somebody random will go top 10-15, as it seems to be happening in recent drafts (Hayton, Dubois, Senyshyn, DeBrusk, etc) so a good player will be around wherever the Nucks pick.
I figure we can revisit this debate in 15 days or so given the Nucks have 8 games in 13 days starting tomorrow, with no more than 1 day off and a couple of back to backs that I figure will drop them down in the standings a few spots. Would be nice if I was wrong.
Newhook:
Savvy scorer with exceptional foot speed, and is constantly driving up ice and has a good shot, great passing abilities and a high hockey IQ.
Smart quick undersized wing who is very strong, deceptive, has tremendously fast stick handling ability and a tenacious 200 foot stick-to-it-ness that makes him a constant threat to score.
He has both a power and speed game that brings fans of of the their seats. A tenacious forechecker who extends zone time for his team by not letting the defending team room to get out.
Bursts in and by defenders and makes moves at top speed and isn’t deterred in small areas avoiding poke checks and blowing by defenders and then even placing himself on a route towards the next one, only to reach around coverage and continue the attack.
He isn’t a shrinking violet in the other two zones either, where he providers backside pressure and uses his speed to get back pucks.Really strong and can use his strength to take charge too. Committed to Boston College.

I like Newhook’s game, weird they are calling him undersized though as he’s listed at 190 pounds and looks every bit that weight. I guess because he’s ‘only’ 5’11”?SKYO wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 1:05 am Yeah dmen are so hard to gauge, take for instance Dennis Cholowski, BCHL dman, difficult because of level of competition, but Detroit took him at #20 even though he as ranked high 20's to early 30's, he spent a year in a nchc/ncaa league, a year in WHL and now is 3rd in NHL dmen rookie scoring with 7 goals, 9 assists, behind Heiskanen and Rasmus Dahlin.
Which is why one should never underestimate high skill in the BCHL ala 5'11-185lbs C Alexander Newhook if the Canucks get a mid round selection.

I’m not a huge Broberg fan, though he’s still quite young of course. His skill level isn’t that high but his physical gifts are - big, very good skater, not much of a stick handler and I’m not sure his head is all that good. Hard to teach hockey sense, though I admit I haven’t seen him as much as other players in the draft. I guess he could improve but there are others I’d take ahead of him both at forward and on D.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 6:51 pmBroberg is a mystery, big smooth skating player but zero offence, sounds like a Tanev which isn’t a bad thingDiehard1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:16 pmI don’t have the top 10 in the same order you do, and I think that some team grabs Broberg in the top 10 but let’s say it’s close.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 6:50 am 1. If Newhook could be transitioned to the wing I’d be interested, didn’t like what I heard about his failed WJC tryout, wasn’t making smart decisions, didn’t stand out when he had the puck, wasn’t pressing the play with the puck, was more comfortable on the perimeter. Those negatives as described him are the positives of Krebs game. I’m all in on Krebs, smart, tenacious, etc. But I think Krebs will be drafted between 5 and 10? He will be gone by the time we are picking but Newhook should still be around.Diehard1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 10:28 pmI like Newhook’s game, weird they are calling him undersized though as he’s listed at 190 pounds and looks every bit that weight. I think there are some layers ahead of him but if we are picking 12-15 he’s a nice choice.
Would be happy if the current injuries to Edler, Bart, Demko increase the odds of us creeping into the top 10 again. We have some good prospects but are really thin still. I always cheer for the win but I think I will be happier to see the Canucks drafting top 10 when it rolls around. The lack of depth has really taxed our d core at times this year and Horvat I think is so gassed after he was pushed way past what you can ask for as one of our top centres.Diehard1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 4:16 pmI don’t have the top 10 in the same order you do, and I think that some team grabs Broberg in the top 10 but let’s say it’s close.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 6:50 am 1.
