Hockey Widow wrote: Thu Mar 01, 2018 2:23 pm I would be fine with him staying in Sweden for 2 more years, similar to what the twins did. Problem is we are desperate for some good PR. Boeser has done wonders for keeping fans interested. The temptation to get Pettersson here next year must be huge.

But then again I advocated for Boeser going to Utica because he just didn't seem ready to me.
Daniel and Henrik spent one season in Sweden after being drafted
Same with Nicklas Backstrom, spent one year after draft in Sweden before turning pro with Washington & was immediately successful, in Backstrom rookie season, MNylander went down to injury where Backstrom was placed with Ovie and the rest as they say is history & NB has never looked back.

If you got the elite skills you can transition quicker, ya don't have to be a Rod the bod BrindAmour built to score a lot of points in the NHL.

fun fact: Thomas Gradin spend two years in the SHL after draft before going pro & was successful.

Considering Pettersson is breaking all SHL U20 scoring records, he should transition well to the pros.

Of note* Stamkos rookie season he had big homie Malone on his LW and small vet skilled winger Martin St. Louis for some games.

So yeah IF indeed Pettersson makes his way to Canucks next season it would be good to have a big winger with him to add some muscle mass to his line, at least in the beginning. Eriksson for Lucic? :D

Pettersson has that young build of Wayne Gretzky or Eric Staal, tall & thin.

lol Staal was 6'3 190 when he was drafted. 30 fucking pounds Skyo.

Pettersen will be lucky to ever be 18 year old Eric Staal.

Pettersson tied Foppas best numbers in the SHL today and now only 2 points back of the overall lead after losing it because of the WJC. Generational. The kid is a stud, exciting times ahead. Lind signed today, Gaudette end of the month, damn is this good! Hopefully a top 5 pick in the 2018 draft!

And Gretzky was 165 lbs when he was drafted & homeboy played in the roughest time ever (I win 8-) ), nowadays with all the goons gone and holding/clutching taken out - it's walk in the park these days vs the 80's. To further my statement when players like 5' 9" | 157 lbs Johnny Gaudreau, 5'9 | 174lbs Marchessault, 5' 11" | 177 lb Patrick Kane, 5' 10" | 166 lb B Point, 6' 0" | 175 lb Mitch Marner, 6' 0" | 172 lb Nikolaj Ehlers, 6' 2" | 177/180 lb Klingberg are all dominating the league with their puny size and weight, you know it's a different era these days.

All I'm saying is if you got the high end skill and IQ/awareness on the ice with some god given talent and work ethic, a player can play pretty quick, especially if you are not a power forward, two-way dman or goalie, those types typically take quite awhile to develop.

Johnny Hockey Diver was 137 lbs when drafted. He uses a 55 flex stick. That's a junior twig.

Clayton Keller 5'-10" - 168 lbs
Kerfoot - 5'-10" - 153 lbs
Gaudreau - 5'-9" - 157 lbs
Marner - 5'-11" - 170 lbs

Should I keep going, Bushmills?

Bubbles he's actually now up close to 170lbs, please drop the 160 lbs bit

Nico Hischier is close @ 6' 1" | 175 lb

And John Klingberg Norris trophy candidate best dman in the NHL is https://www.nhl.com/player/john-klingberg-8475906
6'2" - 177lbs.

So Pettersson has 5-6 months to pack on a few lbs, at least he's not like Shane O'Brien, having to lose 30lbs every training camp, anyways like I said talented players these days will be prolific scorers in the pro's breh, there are a ton of big hulksters in the AHL/NHL that just can't play at all....size ain't everything aha.

And Gretzky played under the "no hitting Gretzky" rule. Do you imagine the NHL extending that kind of protection to a Canucks player ?

Even with that, Gretzky played with a dedicated and capable enforcer (Semeko) on his line.

Finally, I would submit that the decade immediately prior to Gretzky's entry to the NHL, in which Strangelove's beloved Flyers won two Cups on goonery alone, was rougher.
