The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

The widely held opinion that Saudi Arabia, the biggest of the Gulf nations, hasn't taken in a single refugee may well be incorrect. Nabil Othman, acting regional representative to the Gulf region at the United Nations' refugee agency, UNHCR, told Bloomberg there were 500,000 Syrians in that country. Saudi Arabia, like all of the Gulf states, is not a signatory to the UN refugee convention, so these displaced people are not officially designated as refugees.
In total, the six Gulf States (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman) say they have given over €800 million to help those suffering from the Syrian crisis.
These claims are also the targets of harsh criticisms from NGO leaders, despite the International Red Cross/ Red Crescent recognising this year the UAE as the world’s top humanitarian donor, in large part owing to its support for displaced Syrians in Jordan.
Since the Syrian crisis began in 2011, the UAE has extended residency permits to more than 100,000 Syrian nationals to enter the country. The total number of Syrian nationals living in the UAE is now more than 242,000.
Yep, you're wrong... sorry.
UAE has taken in 250,000 and recently have taken Guantanamo bay prisoners off the American's hands.
But trump and many others for that matter don't seem to say much about how many refugees there would be in the first place if a dozen different countries weren't bombing the shit of the place trying to stamp out ISIS that wouldn't even exist if Bush had stayed out of Iraq.
Edit: sorry Corn it's early in the morning here and I didn't see that you already said it.
PS.
Thank God Trudeau pulled out the F18s it was damned embarrassing trying to walk around here while Harper was trashing our good name by bombing targets in a sovereign nation and generally acting like Americans.

So Doc, just curious... climate change debate aside, are in favour of burning fossil fuels until they run out or switching over to renewable energy?
(and no, I'm not watch any videos)
Well "burning fossil fuels until they run out" is probably the best way to postpone WWIII
... so I suppose I'm in favour of "switching over to renewable energy" asap.
You do want the second coming to hurry up and arrive!
Ah and with a simple wink you just tipped your hand.
You are a Christian Zionist
That's why I dropped the "discussion" about Israeli brutality in Palestine.
You're to busy trying to manipulate God's return. You already have your hands full.

Thanks Cornuck, I'll look into this further. You too have a good weekend. Avoid thoughts of impending doom and try not to have dreams about Hillary.

You know who I miss in American and Canadian public life? The Friendly Giant and Mr. Rogers. I am sure someone on this thread will post a link to show both of them had sex with animals or some such, but I do not care about such links. Both of these men were about good things with no ego getting in the way. i wish I could be as much of a man as Fred Rogers, even with his cardigans.
Now we have Trump, Ryan, McConnell and the rest of the political class who are embarrassing as human beings. Hillary is not up to Obama's legacy which will start with no scandals while in the White House, and move on from there. I point to his staying out of Syria as his best move. His second best may be actually learning from history that Western involvement in the middle east always turns out badly. i have an American grandson who is soft and sweet like my daughter who birthed him. He will not have to be a 'tough guy' like many of us had to be to survive bad circumstances.
I like the passion on this site but the argument has become too dependent upon certain egos who will no sooner admit they are wrong than cut off their finger. I will always come down on the side of people who want to look after the less fortunate. Maybe some of this is due to being born that way in Grace hospital and growing up on Wall Street. i do not really know as others who go through the same or worse do better than I did, so who knows?
However, there is a real hate brewing down here now and is being stoked by the Donald. For this alone I do not like him. I do not think it is a fluke that Americans WITH college degrees are flocking to the Dems while those without are his main supporters. Make of it what you want.
On a different note, where are you stationed UK? I seem to remember you saying something about the UAE but I could be wrong. I worked in Oman for a year and another one in what was then North Yemen so I have more than passing familiarity with Arabs. Curious about your take as the ones I read about in the U.S. have little to do with the ones I lived and worked with.
If you can look past the religious part (might offend you) check out this humorous video. It's not on climate change but rather evolution and it demonstrates a little of my opinion about Bill Nye the Scienctism guy.
Excerpt : "Evolution says people came from monkeys and the question is why is there still monkeys?"

Can you please clarify the meaning of your last couple of sentences of your second paragraph? Not to sure how to take it.
If you are talking about the American and Canadian Military serving in the Middle East, well fine but you are aware that there is no draft in Canada or the U.S.
If you are talking about all the American and Canadian personnel that served, fought, contributed, and gave their lives for our Freedom since WW1 then "How dare you sir"
Please let me no so I can either apologize or get a bar of soap to wash your mouth out when you come to Van.
I'm sure I'll be apologizing, right?
