Once his ELC is done he''ll be asking for dough that will make him the highest paid player in the game, or a comparable to the highest paid player in the game, whoever that is now. He needs to make up for what he lost in endorsement deals had a bigger market team drafted him instead of the bowels of Canada.Hockey Widow wrote:I doubt McDavid is asked to sign much of a bridge deal. He'll get a good pay day when his time comes.

In as much as Edmonton has been the pretty much the Platonic Ideal of tanking for about a decade, if they win a Stanley Cup again before Vancouver does, will any anti-tanking posters here concede that, whatever their moral compunctions about the practice, it can be a viable path to a Championship ?

I'm on the wagon during the week. But I may fall off tonight. It's so hot out and I'm gonna go swimming pretty quick, so that usually sounds like beer.

Ah yes, if they keep Weber for at least 4 years the recapture drops to zero.Hockey Widow wrote:Bergevin saying that given the structure of Weber's contract, should he retire early, they will not be on for any cap recapture, nor would another team if Montreal susequently trades him. All the recapture penalty will fall on Nashville.
See, for the next two seasons Weber gets paid $12M-per... but the cap-hit is less than $8M-per.
This of course triggers recapture penalties for the Habs... ~ $8.3 total after 2 years.
But after that Weber only gets paid $6M for a few years and that number continues to drop (down to $1M).
Those years will quickly eat up all the cap-benefit they had (that $8.3M)
... so yeah, eventually the Habs will have zero recapture penalties.
Meanwhile the Preds though have already benefited cap-wise to the tune of $24.6M.
(Weber was paid $14M-per in each of the last 4 seasons)
Upon Weber's retirement the Preds will get hit with that #... spread over the remaining # of years in contract.

No, they keep asking me for a price. It's a bit too far to go. It's an ugly one. Trying to fix an ugly addition that was done years ago, I bet if you drove down the street you'd figure out pretty quickly which one is it is, a real hack job addition,'it's quite funny. But an easy fix to make nice. The usual problem though - they don't have a lot of dough but are asking for the moonBlob Mckenzie wrote:Nope. As for Hall, #Isles didn't offer what EDM wanted, which was Hamonic. Plain and simple.

Already said this earlier this summer, but after all the stuff Hamonic went through, if GS had traded him, team might have staged a coup.

Can certainly debate skill levels of Hall/Hamonic. Wasn't a trade #Isles felt they could make w/ one of the emotional leaders of the team.

If that happens the only thing I'll concede is that an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters might eventually write the bible.Ronning's Ghost wrote:In as much as Edmonton has been the pretty much the Platonic Ideal of tanking for about a decade, if they win a Stanley Cup again before Vancouver does, will any anti-tanking posters here concede that, whatever their moral compunctions about the practice, it can be a viable path to a Championship ?

So I guess Subban is getting himself a Cowboy hat, some snakeskin boots and can dust off his old Charlie Pride records. If this deal was about talent and age I would say the Preds made out like bandits. However I think PK is a bit of a dink and I would take Thunderbeard for the next 5 years myself.
I am curious how good Larson can be. The Devils got the better and more valuable player by far but Edmonton needed d men and he is a legit top 4 rh d man who is young and will improve. Interesting day for sure in the NHL.
