^^^ Yup, Phat Phil is probably the laziest, most-selfish player in the league

... and Captain Dion is among the dumbest.

Ideally, you'd want your captain to DEMAND more out of a player like Kessel.

Instead, Phaneuf leaves him be... and then goes along with his Salutegate. :scowl:

A captain should be all over a guy like Phil non-stop, instead we see this:

They should fire Carlyle and bring in Torts on a suicide mission.

He could start by benching the two of them on HNIC at the ACC.

Or they could just keep rolling along as they are forever.

Another Leaf jersey toss during the game in Winnipeg the other night.

John Tortorella would be a great fit in Toronto .

What we're seeing in Toronto now is the result of Burke's mismanagement.

Rather than build patiently through the draft he took the quick fix, by trading for Kessel. Nothing wrong with Kessel (he does score goals) but they could have had Seguin and Hamilton in the line up right now....how good would they look now in Toronto.

He's been trying to move Reimer all season and where is he now???

It's as fun a time as ever to hate the leaves - the gift that keeps on giving.

We can only hope they fire Nonis and bring in Lowe as the master of rebuilds. After all, he has years and years of experience with them.

Typical Laughs move. All the centre of the universe media are talking about Carlyle and not the gold-medal winning junior team.

I doubt they fill the coaching job until they know if Babcock walks from Detroit. If Babcock decides to move on I think he gets to write his ticket in Toronto. I also think Nonis will be kept in to clean house but will be gone before next training camp.

Shanny will now move to make this his team with his people. Carlyle and Nonis were given this season and the team's performance has sealed their fate.

They don't make an ideal trading partner for us because they are going to want youth and picks back. Hopefully Fransen decides to walk in the summer, he is one guy I'd like to see in a Canuck's uniform, although I think his price tag on the open market will be too steep for us.

They have some interesting pieces that could fetch a decent return if they waive their NTC. Other than that they have some young players they may want to hang onto but will be more sought after.

Interesting times.

Ron Wilson slams Phat Phil
"2 weeks on 2 weeks off"

"emotional"

"difficult with team mates when thing not going well".

"I thought I could turn this team around"

"I've watched every Leaf game this season and I've never seen a commitment to defence"

"it's got to be the players fault"

"core players have failed under two or three coaches now"

Sound like an uncoachable bunch.

Check TSN's LeafLunch

LOL

.....and Phil is asked if he's a difficult player to coach.........then goes off on the reporter "you think this is my fault?", "you're such and idiot"

Why fire Carlyle in the middle of the season if they are going to be waiting on Babcock anyway (no way Babcock leaves stabe and successful Detroit for that gong show, btw).

"Who's fucking fault is it Phil?" Would be my follow up question.

Was he really talking about the leaves or was that directed to the Oilers?

Toronto Maple leaves star Phil Kessel was blasted by a former coach Tuesday, and later lost his cool on a reporter.

In an interview with TSN Radio, former leaves coach Ron Wilson pointed the finger for the team's struggles not on fired bench boss Randy Carlyle but on players like Kessel.

“Some of the core players have failed under two or three coaches so it’s got to be the player’s fault,” said Wilson. “You’d have to surmise that some of them might be uncoachable."

Wilson was especially critical of Kessel, who he said was difficult to coach.

“You can’t rely on Phil,” said Wilson. “Phil’s problem, and I think it’s pretty much how Phil’s been his whole career, is that he is two weeks on and two weeks off."

Wilson also said Kessel's lack of consistency leads the forward to become emotional, and makes it hard for a coach to help him focus.

“When he’s not playing well, he’s a hard guy to get on board and get on your side. It’s just the way it is," said Wilson. "He comes and goes and he gets emotional. He lets that affect his game and his relationship with other players. That’s what you have to coach.”

Wilson was doubtful that the firing of Carlyle on Tuesday would make any difference for the leaves in the long-run.

“You never change a leopard’s spots. You paint over some of those spots, but they’ll eventually shine through the paint and that’s just too bad," said Wilson.

Wilson coached the leaves from 2008 to 2012 before Brian Burke replaced him with Carlyle.

During a media scrum hours after the firing of Carlyle, Kessel was asked by a reporter if he was a difficult player to coach. The leaves forward responded emotionally to the question, becoming upset with the reporter.

"I don't think so, that's a weird question for you to ask," said Kessel. "You think it's my fault? Is that what you're saying?"

Kessel left reporters with a final comment about the reporter who asked him the question.

"This guy's such an idiot here. He's always been like this," said Kessel.
