It is going to be a long summer/off season/fall/winter until they drop the puck again.
unit then boys and girls buckle up because it is going to get nasty here.

Right now we have taken a step back on the blueline.
I’m fully on board with Tanev and Markstrom getting those paydays elsewhere. Everything said about them is true.
That being said, Tanev is not easily replaced simply because of how thin our right side already was and there’s nobody internally that can step in at his level of defensive play.
Could he be replaced via free agency? Yes.
There have been a few defensemen already signed that I’m very surprised we weren’t in on when you see their price tags.
Barrie for example just signed a 1 year show me deal for $3.75M. He would definitely have been worth having on a 1 year deal at even as high as $4M. No clue what went on and maybe he’s really just looking to cash in on the chance to ride McDavid and Draisaitl’s coattails.....regardless that is going to be something that any GM will factor in next year. So I’m not sure it does anything for him. Or perhaps he just wanted to avoid expansion nonsense. Although I can see him signing as an UFA with Seattle to be close to home.....and I can also see an expansion team giving him a 5 year contract at a salary he’s happier with.
Regardless, Tanev needs to be replaced, and right now Benning is seemingly sitting on the sidelines while other teams are landing some discounted talent that would be serviceable in the holes we currently have.
It’s only day 3 though. So patience is still a virtue. However Elmer might find himself picking over some real scraps at this rate.
He gets far more than a passing grade for his handling of Markstrom and Tanev.
I think I would have been happy with Stecher back at $1.7M tho. I suspect in this case that when Vancouver didn’t give him a QO he decided to sign elsewhere like a jilted lover.
I think everyone just wants to know what the plan is for the blueline because as of now the only hope this team has of a playoff spot is if Demko plays at least 30 games like he did his last 3....

Meds i read the 3 teams that were in on Barrie were Col Van and EDM. VAN and COL both have their top unit PP QB already and this is where TB pays his rent.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Barrie went to Edmonton, even though Vancouver was in on the bidding, to try and resurrect his career totals while riding shotgun for the big two. If he can get his points back up to the 50 mark he will earn, or so the theory goes, a bigger payday next off season. As was said, here he would be behind Hughes. So Benning was all over this but Barrie chose another route.
In fact, because we were waiting on Barrie we lost Stetcher. Canucks had him as a plan D. Plan A, OEL. Plan B, Tanev, Plan C Barrie. Plan D Stetcher. Stetcher got an offer from Detroit he liked and Canucks told him he would have to wait until after Barrie decided. Stetcher decided not to wait.
So its nonsense to suggest Benning wasn't active or somehow missed out, fell asleep at the wheel.

Pietrangelo to Vegas.
Schmidt traded to Panthers.
Hall to Sabres.

Interesting, HW... I don't think JB can ever win in this market. He acts decisively right away -> He's too hasty. He waits patiently to see how it plays out -> He's asleep.
Not a shot against you Meds. I agree with everything... except the Stecher part. Goodbye Runt.

Hall is obviously all about winning.
Wanted to finally have some success after only 2 playoffs in 11 years. Willing to take less to win...
Goes to Buffalo for 8 Million winning reasons

Schmidt not going to Panthers.
Instead of OEL, why not trade for Schmidt?Panotta:
Follow up on this... Told that a Schmidt trade is still in place, but contrary to reports, he is not going to Florida. Stay tuned.

I've seen that AP is visiting Vegas. Haven't seen that he's signing, nor that Schmidt has been traded.....source?

@andystrickland
Can confirm Alex Pietrangelo and #Vegasborn are indeed working towards completing a contract.

It's like I said, this is how teams up against the cap sign big UFAs.
Pull the trigger on a deal on the table.
