It definitely wasnt by design if thats what youre implying. Its purely circumstantial.

I am pretty sure they werent taking a winger regardless of who was still available and that most likely why they didnt even interview him. Imagine the uproar if they had picked 2 similar wingers 2 years in a row with that gaping hole on defense.

I doubt they imagined how poorly OJ would develop otherwise i we would be watching Sergachev in canucks colors

Yes imagine the uproar to taking a far better player. At the time and now they needed help at every position.

At the time OJ projected to be exactly what we lacked a future puck moving smooth skating defenseman. Too bad hes stalled at 17 in strength and agility. Smurfs are regularly bumping him off pucks in his own end still

2014-Jake; right wing, shoots right.
2015-Brock; right wing shoots right.
2016-Mathew left wing shoots left.

Not the same, right?

They are allowed to make trades. Ryan Johsnsen for Seth Jones ring a bell?

What would Olaf fetch in a deal?

I fucked up the timeline lol.

Well thats even worse then. Imagine 3 wingers in a row taken 1st round with zero top end defensive prospects. I can see why we might draft positionally...too bad our boy hasn't stepped up though. If he had tracked the same as his comparable Ollie Maata maybe we aren't wasting our friday morning on this

In all fairness, he was hyped as a superman. Looked real good in London, then that fucking world juniors wearing the C.
No idea how bad the press was in Finland but, BAD.
Sports shrink! Others have done that with success.

No i haven't. What pic? Linky?

As far as the hype on OJ...i think we worked him into a top pairing asset more than media did at the time. Maata is a 2nd pairing guy and was his draft day comparable.

Would Bubbles be this ‘not drafting Matthew Tkachuk’ depressed had we let’s say drafted Dylan Ankle Skater Strome instead of Mitch “his favourite” Marner?

That was a blunder too. Both were brutal don’t you think?

Why do you run with that ridiculous Blob narrative?

Over the years Trev went up against some much tougher hombres that Fatso:

Matt Greene
Sean Avery
Bill Lindsay
Rob Ray
Stephane Matteau
Tie Domi
Adam Foote
Mark Hunter
Frank Musil
Steven Finn

Eventually he realized that a #1 centre was more valuable on the ice than in the box.

Mr Linden was definitely not afraid of Blubbo, here's an example:

http://dropyourgloves.com/fights/GameEv ... Game=10209

"Trevor Linden - Aggressor"
"Keith Tkachuk - Victim"

Trevor attacked the fatty, launching him into the boards.

Tkapuke got up and skated toward TL, running at the mouth.

Trev immediately dropped his gloves and Fat Chicken declined.

WHO was "scared" of WHOM?

Blob's narrative = Buncha bullshit.

Most of the fight calls have no video evidence to say they were anything but waltzes

I was at a game in 92/93 where KT chased him all over the ice and TL wanted no part of it. And of course we all remember when Claude wanted him but Trev was very frightened

There was a lot of talk just before the playoffs that year about Trev needing to stop getting sucked in to fighting (to get him off the ice).

I agree that he should have fought Claude at that point, but he felt he had to remain on the ice to mount a comeback.

He certainly wasn't afraid to fight anyone, check his fight card...
