Sounds like Shane Doan is being viewed more as a replacement for JR than PA.

Back up to dat dere from da webz...
Ryan Johnson reportedly landed the Vancouver Canucks general manager job for under $850,000, according to insider Andy Stickland on Saturday afternoon.
That number raised eyebrows across the league within minutes of the report dropping.
For context, most NHL general managers sit comfortably between $1.5 and $3 million per year. Johnson's reported figure reads closer to entry-level NHL coaching pay.

What did the Sedins get? I bet they have to split a single salary.
Same old, same and old continuity of agenda… on a budget.

..and Gold reportedly (allegedly) turned them down.
Now we might just know why.
If that's true it is even more fucked.

What I heard Donny was that they had not made a decision as to which direction they were going when Rutherford did one of his pressers and announced he was stepping down as POHO after the draft and was going to settle into an advisory role. That caught the Aquas off guard as they thought he would work out the year and they would have a slower transition.
Once he made that announcement they approached the twins and asked about COPOHO roles. They had some meaningful discussions and the twins said yes but.....they wanted control of who the next GM would be and wanted a firm understanding that their role was to facilitate the rebuild, no quick fixes.
With that as the back drop, the twins wanted RJ. Gold was never offered the position. It may very well be that Rutherford is slyer than we think. He wanted RJ too and perhaps he was sensing that the Aquas may want to go with Gold so he knew if he made his announcement it change the course of things. I don't think he wanted to be responsible for the one to bring in Gold.
But who knows the truth eh.

Interesting.
Thanks Wids.
Bringing in Gold meant a complete and utter tear down of JR'S work.
Pretty sad if true.
