Agreed. The Canucks should not carry two undersized defensemen. Hughes can put up points but not Stecher. If JB can sign Stone cheap for a year or two, it will buy some time for Woo.

Well good news is Stecher will likely put up some good points this upcoming season so the ol' pump and dump move has begun.

Get Stecher's points up and move his RFA contract in 2020 offseason/draft to a team who is prepared to give up picks/prospects for an in-prime right shot QB.

What do you think Stecher's value is today? A 4th? Maybe a 3rd?

What will it get up to? A 2nd? Personally I see no possibility of him ever netting a 1st or good roster player...

...and if that's his value around the league, doesn't that suggest you probably don't want him tying up a roster spot?

Michael Stone stats: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... ?pid=96696

Ya 29 years old and those last three years just kicked some serious ass huh? Trending well Huh?
Hey, when Stecher's contract runs out the end of this coming year, upgrade if you can, sure.
However, if Michael Stone is an answer, bringing back Guds would be what? Genius?
Biega is better that Stone at this point.
Even if you sign Stone for a million bucks, lol, good luck with that, my thoughts would be he has an agent, ,
How do you punt Stecher? 2.325 left for one year.
Put him on the market Monday morning and I guarantee you can have a third but more likely a second round pick by the afternoon.
Nothing is going to happen and Stone is way risky; unlikely to make a come-back.

I'd say Stecher's value is almost similar to Neal Pionk.

Stech 23pts last season, Pionk 26pts, both righties, a year apart in age, both not the greatest defensively nor the biggest players.

There is no rush to move Stecher right now, he's cheap, he's skilled and has upside plus he's just starting to reach/realize his potential.

Especially with this team lacking in team defense points, his added skill set will be superb in this puck possession era.

In addition with team injuries, having added weapons to step up will be invaluable for a team needing a rock solid season to build upon and ultimately reach the playoffs.

I'd say Pionk's value was a throw-in to open a roster spot for the Rangers. I'd agree with that for Stecher - he won't get you any meaningful asset in return, but will be a throw-in with a "real" asset (like a 1st in Pionk's case) to get a better player.

And I don't agree that Stecher has any offensive skill at all, putting him on the 1st powerplay was an absolute dud move, and probably the least-accurate shot I've seen on an NHLer.

Stecher scored 24 points as a rookie dman in the league under Willie Desjardins.

Got put thru the grinder under Green for a couple years before TG found trust in his game to get him back to 20+ points again, those are decent points for a depth transitional dman.

It's a good hedge bet Troy improves on those totals with the coaching staff now having trust/confidence in his game.

You are right he doesn't have a strong slapper from the point, but he's got a solid passing game and skating ability, plus a decent seeing eye snapshot to get pucks to the net.

Stone is a more effective defenseman than Stecher if he has fully recovered from his blood clot issue.

He only played 14 games last season because of said issue.

Because of said issue he likely only gets a cheap "show me" one-year contract.

What are you, MS Part Deux, the Nightmare Continues?

Yeahno, when both are healthy Stone is miles better than Biega...

Lol you'd get a 4th for Stecher you shrimp-loving sonuva be-atch.

That's what I call a punt by the way...

I'll tell Jimmy what you think. I'm sure he'll be impressed.
But, carry on.

I don't give a rats ass if Stecher stays or not. But you are trying to stick us with a 29 year old resurrection project at best.

Its just time to accept the facts SL,

Stone was good .... two years ago, he like Petrovic would be ok as a #7 dman el cheapo, stock plummeting.

While Stecher's value is just going to get better from here on out, stock rising.

as an aside.
Stone will be Brad Treliving's 6th buyout as #Flames GM,

and the 4th of a deal he signed (following Bouma, Raymond and Brouwer).
