I love seeing the optimism around here! :D I'm not going to predict anything, but I did a mock draft that had the Canucks picking 1st, so I'm just leaving that window open for good luck. #notsuperstitious

No matter how it ends up, we're still picking picking in the top 10 and will be getting (at least) another good prospect to add to the pool.

Appear to challenge ?

It looks like this is, in fact, a mere trolling, and not an honest discussion.

I'll leave you to your games, then.
After destroying dear ole Cliffy with point after point after devastating point

Isn't that special. :)

Yes, Blobby trolls me sometimes by pretending to support folks with whom I engage in debate.

(with simple things such as "So-and-so is winning the debate")

Yes, no doubt folks were entertained by you pretending that massive stick up yo ass isn't there!

"My opponents rely on blind faith while I use only reason, I'm a scientist dammit!!" - Cliffy in a deadly serious tone.

Then he swings around obliviously knocking things off the counter with the stick while he looks around frowning.. HAHA!!

Yes, it's hilarious that you pretend you are the only one who can't clue in to that stick up yo ass, thanks for the laughs...

It's understandable how his methodical dismantling of your arguments has you confused.

Don't tread on the fantasy, Bruh.

Still, I am more inclined to think we will pick around the 12 mark. Given our history I'd say there is "plenty" (real definition, not yours  ) of bad luck history to support that potential result.

Yes, 12th. We have to pre-appease the hockey gods.

I can understand why you would think such usage is wrong given how prolific our bad luck has been.

Are we forgetting the curse of the Canucks first two drafts? Lose the spin for Perrault on year 1, draft Tallon. Win the last game of the season in year 2 moving us from 1st overall pick where we would have had a choice of either Lafleur or Dionne to 3rd overall pick where we drafted the great Jocelyn Guevromont!

We are cursed by the draft, we stay the same or drop back, plain and simple.

Luck has been bad in the lotteries... but never that bad.

Cease and desist from misusing the word "plenty" immediately or there will be further consequences...

Pettersson scored the late goal against St. Louis in the 3rd which cemented the 9th overall going into the lottery.

If the Canucks somehow end up top 3, we all have Petey to thank.

Diehard1 wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2019 6:51 am You can put together a list of reasons for each team being able to make the playoffs 3 years after they bottomed out - fact is, they did it when you said we shouldn’t expect it. It happens all the time so why should we expect less from the Nucks?

Jimbo is going into his 6th offseason and 6th season coming up. We should expect nothing less than playoffs this coming year and turning into a contender after that. It’s possible, just requires some more moves and hopefully Jimbo is up to the task.
But they didn't do it. You moved the goalposts about "bottoming out" while ignoring the fact it took at least 4 years.

I pointed out the Canucks and the teams I mentioned have and are rebuilding the traditional way.... it usually takes awhile and only IF they are good and consistent in their scouting, drafting and development.

LA got their core and rebuilt as I mentioned, but it took 6 years of no playoffs. Again, after they "bottomed out" with 68 pts, they were still equally as bad with 71 & 79 pts.

Colorado already had the young core that I listed, and they were a good team before and after their 48 pt season. They were NOT rebuilding from scratch. But they seem to know how to tank in the right draft year it seems.

Pittsburgh? C'mon. These 2 scenarios aren't the norm for rebuilding teams to model. Neither is winning all those lottery picks like Edmonton.

Leaves 2005-06 to 2015-16... one playoffs. In eleven years.

Chicago 1997-98 to 2007-08... one playoffs. In ten years.

Winnipeg/Atlanta 2007-08 to 2016-17... one playoffs. In ten years. Cheveldayoff, who's been masterful in selecting the right 1st round picks, have 3 playoffs in 9 seasons as GM. And he's been building this team the way it should be built since he took over in 2011.

The "norm" of full rebuilds is that it takes time, scouting, drafting, development and lots of luck. What you did with your selective stats isn't the norm.

You just want to keep taking shots at JB with your selective stats. We already said many times much of it had to Aqua's continued direction for the team. This team has missed the playoffs 4 years in a row.

But I wholeheartedly agree with you as will many others here... "We should expect nothing less than playoffs this coming year and turning into a contender after that. It’s possible, just requires some more moves and hopefully Jimbo is up to the task."

Yes.
I moved no goalposts - you said I shouldn't expect this team to rebuild in 3 years so I gave you numerous examples of teams who had done just that. I could have added more but figured you got the point. Notice I didn't include the years before the salary cap and lockout as they aren't really comparable given a different CBA and system in place, though I did include Pitt getting Crosby the year the NHL came back of course.

Yes, there are also examples of teams not rebuilding in 3 years - never said there weren't, in fact I never said anything about 3 years at all, those were your words so I showed you numerous examples where the rebuild was done that quickly. Again, I'm just using facts and records so not sure why you keep trying to read more into what I'm saying.

As for selective stats, picking the worst possible teams in the past 20 years, most of which were in a different era (before salary cap) is exactly how you use selective stats. Showing you 7 examples from different teams with different financial means is not selective, but what you showed above certainly is. Chicago - ridiculously cheap owner. Toronto - horrible management in Nonis, Burke and JFJ. Atlanta - basically bankrupt. Of course these teams sucked, is this what we aspire to? At least we are ahead of the leaves of the early 2000's, Atlanta and Edmonton? That's certainly setting the bar low if that's what we are looking to achieve.

Just because each of those teams had reasons for getting good doesn't mean it can't happen here - yes a lottery win would help but so would a number of other things, number one being savvy trades and signings by management this summer. I have no desire to take shots are Benning or anybody else - in fact I'd say the number one reason this team has the 2nd most losses in the past 4 years is the owner is a moron, and I say that as someone who has met him a few times. Benning is an average GM IMHO, good drafter, ok player developer, bad trader, horrible FA signer. He also needs help and some direction from above and I think it's the owner who is moving the goalposts rather than Benning. With that said, should I be criticizing Aquilini's moves or Benning's? I can only criticize or praise the moves that I see, can't read into what I think Aqua is doing pulling the strings behind Jimbo as it's all conjecture.

As for playoffs next year - at least we can agree on something, now let's leave it at that! :D
