Apparently it could be a paper transaction to maximize accrued cap space. I read it goes from 5k/day to 22k/day for the days he's not officially with the big club
I am hoping this is what this is. Savings plus days on the roster. He gets 30 cumulative days on the roster before having to be waived again, a little more time to evaluate what we have there without risk of waivers. I think he's shown the club 6-7 level play, and that's worth keeping around to practice with the team, rotate in and out with Forbert, and spell for injuries and illnesses.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 1:41 pm Apparently it could be a paper transaction to maximize accrued cap space. I agree. There is not a lot separating Bains from Sasson, Bloom, Karlsson or Pizza Dude. All are bench warmers at the NHL level, but we might get a 13th forward out of the mess. Pizza was an ok 13th forward, but, Raty has surpassed him in that role, and hopefully Raty becomes a permanent mid 6 guy.UWSaint wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 2:01 pm [
As for Baines, he has no place in Vancouver when Joshua returns and he hasn't (in my view) separated himself from the Abby crew enough to make him the no brainer call up when a player is injured and a wing is needed. One of Allvin's observations about not using LTIR to open the season was to increase the flexibility to reward Abby players with coffee cup call ups. For Baines to be a permanent 13th (or 14th) forward, he has to show he matters. He hasn't.
Bains seems slow at the NHL level. Like he has to think about what he is supposed to do, not act instinctively. His shot is ok, but his first step is slow.Tciso wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 7:23 amI agree. There is not a lot separating Bains from Sasson, Bloom, Karlsson or Pizza Dude. 13th forwards who may still benefit from time on ice in pro North American game situations -- typically the waiver exempt guys -- are generally better off playing more minutes and in a bigger role in the lesser league than occasionally drawing into games and practicing with the big team. Shorter cups of coffee for these guys -- get some exposure to the NHL and some extra scratch in a paycheck, but don't lose much playing time. Take Raty. Even if he's surpassed Aman by a little (and I am not sure that he has b/c of the PK), his development is better in Abbotsford as a top 6 player than in Vancouver as 12-13 and the marginal impact on the team's ability to get points is negligible.Tciso wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 7:23 amI agree. Sherwood turning some heads and getting some luv. Nice to see. He reminds be a bit of Raffi Torres. Maybe not as much of a devastating hitter, but Sherwood luvs to take the body and finish his checks. I think Sherwood is a better 200 ft player though. The 29-year-old winger is off to a historic start, throwing 44 hits in just six games this season. He leads defenceman Jeremy Lauzon by 10 and the next forward, Ty Kartye, by 15.
Raffi was a good rusher on the dump annd chase, and he crashed the net. But his game on the south side of center was average at best. His hits could be crushing…..but he was inconsistent.Todd Bersnoozi wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 5:04 pm Kiefer Sherwood on record-setting NHL hits pace to begin Canucks career

- Elliote Fried'chicken'manSo the Canucks got their sales done, Pettersson signs eight years, $11.6 million, he’s a Canuck, he’s a great talent. Now, we’re in service. Even though the Canucks signed Pettersson, I think they felt there was another level – or two levels – that they felt they needed to get him to. I think it was felt that as great as he is, they needed him to be tougher. I don’t know if meaner’s the right word, but tougher. Some people are not wired that way. But I think they felt he was wired that way and is wired that way, but they have to encourage him to get there.
And, what I also believe is that they didn’t want it to be up to [Jim] Rutherford or [Patrik] Allvin or [Rick] Tocchet to do it. They really believe in their leadership group; they believe that [Quinn] Hughes is a strong captain, and they believe that Miller is a strong alternate captain and that their group is a strong group. They said, ‘You guys are the ones who have to do it.’ Miller’s obviously taking that very literally. In that practice, I think there’s been talks off the ice, but I think Hughes is involved too. I just think Hughes would take that so seriously, as a responsibility of his. I think you’re insane if you don’t think he’s trying to do that, too.
I think what the Canucks have said to their leadership group is, ‘Elias needs to get to another level, you all see it, and we want you guys to get him there.’ And I think they see it, they understand it, and they’re trying to push him there. I think the message comes harder from some guys – Miller – as opposed to other guys – like Hughes. But I think that’s the goal here. They feel that tough love is the way.
There’s a couple of other things at play. I don’t think he [Pettersson] always likes it. I think they’re hoping he will understand that it’s to make them win, but I don’t think we always likes it. I don’t know how serious it is, but I don’t think he’s 100%. I can’t answer that in terms of what percentage he’s at; I think it’s a factor. The biggest thing I think he feels is, I think a lot of players prefer when the constructive criticism comes down the chain of command, whether it’s management or coach, you don’t always like it when it’s your teammates because your teammates are supposed to have your back.
At the end of the day, the goal here from the Canucks is, if this guy can get a little bit of a thicker skin, he’s going to be unstoppable. We need to push him to be that player. You can’t go too far; there are lines you cannot cross, but this is what the Canuks are really trying to do.
And then he pulls some low brow shit and scores his first goal. That is something to be proud of.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 8:50 amBains seems slow at the NHL level.
