Petey: "You can look at the stats and say I stink, but I feel like I've been better (the last couple of games)".

I certainly agree he's been better the last couple of games.

If he keeps this up, the stats won't be stinky for long...

I thought he was really on his toes last game. Looked like the old Petey.

He's getting close.

I think it’s all about Peteys body language and the way he pouts that may drive teammates nuts, probably a loner. An introvert in a “team” setting doesn’t necessarily fly with the boys.

I have not seen anything that indicates his teammates have issues with him. A scuffle in practice means nothing. Give him 20 games to see if there is an issue, or if this is a dry spell.

He’s had 36 games going back to last season. I think that number jumps to 49 games if you count the playoffs.

WAsn't sure where to put this, The Province is starting to do a prospect ranking listing. TLDR, list is below:

1. Raty (C)
2. Letterkenny (RW)
3. Willander (D)
4. D Petey (D)
5. Kudryavtsev (D)
6. Mynio (D)
7. Tolopilo (G)
8. Fernström (RW)
9. Woo (D)
10. Patterson (C)

Re scuffle: exactly. Garland and Joshua scuffled in practice last year. How did that end up? Joshua, like Miller, have direct personalities. Garland, like Petey seems to be now, was all in his own head when that scuffle occurred -- I'm not getting used correctly, my results are not what I'd like them to be, this isn't what I was hoping for.

Regarding the 20 games, I agree with that, too. I really don't see this as an extenuation of his less-than-remarkable play down the stretch and in the playoffs -- and I think his play has improved since the first game. Last year, I am inclined to believe that he had tendinitis, and I am inclined to believe he wasn't that forthright with the staff or coach about it. The way he was playing was consistent with that, and hockey players suck up discomfort, sometimes to their own (and the team's) detriment, but often because its part of being a hockey player/professional athlete. He sort of did that (or tried to do that) with his wrist in the All Canada season -- until he couldn't.

EP40 seems like a guy who thinks that he can work through his problems on his own. And I suspect he's his own worst critic, overanalyzes everything, and perhaps counterintuitively, that's why he can be so hostile to/affected by outside criticism and also resistant to help. I've known lots of people with this personality who are high achievers. Some fat fuck behind a keyboard or douchebag with a microphone gonna tell me what I'm doing wrong when I've spent 5 months fixated on it and trying different approaches?

He's had a great track record to date putting up points and playing better than average defense. He's shown the ability to work through headspace problems before (but unfortunately seems prone to them). He's overcome previous deficits in his game that are largely of a "time in, results out" nature (he's way stronger, he's not bad anymore at faceoffs). (In other words, he puts in the work). IMO, chances are better than not EP40 turns it around. IMO, that momentum has already started.

Always hard to tell what the metrics for a prospect ranking. Sushi and Willander are clearly the highest upside prospects in the organization, and they haven't done anything since their drafts to adjust their ceilings downwards. Raty's probably the most NHL ready now.

No one after that has a better than 50% chance to be better than replacement level. And of those, whose projected ceiling is impressively high? I see a bunch of third pairing ceilings or maybe 4-5's on defense. The goalie's ceiling is a back up. Perhaps the forwards have higher ceilings (and I think you could add Romani to the list), but they all seem like long shots with limitations that make them unlikely to transfer their game into something other than an offensive role if plan A doesn't work out.

But I am glad to see a guy like KK moving up a list and have it not simply be pie-in-the-sky thinking to consider him a possible future NHLer. And since he's already so far ahead of his draft day curve, maybe his ceiling can get an upward adjustment too. It seems like forever since the Canucks have hit on a draft day long shot. Heck, it seems like forever since a long shot draft day prospect even gave reason for increased optimism after the draft. Gaudette was the last one I can remember. (I suppose Silovs counts, but goalies are weird).

And I don't get Woo -- my view is that if you aren't waiver-exempt, you aren't really a prospect anymore. Woo still might see some time in the NHL somewhere, maybe even Vancouver, but there's no longer much unknown in that mountain, and the only reason he's in the organization is that 31 other teams didn't want him for free.

at one point in the game he dangled that defender in the slot before being tripped.. if only he had not been tripped and put it home..
that's the type of play he used to do without thinking, just needs one or two to go in and that'll really get himself out of his own head.

Over $142,000/game

Over $850,000 to date

That 11,600,000 dollar a year toy isn't so shiny is it. Fuck, it didn't even arrive in shape, charged and ready to go.

Batteries not include.

I haven’t managed to see more than a few scattered periods of the season so far. Looking at the box scores, it seems the team as a whole has been playing better, with balanced scoring, while the best players have been just that.

Also encouraging what UW and some of the others suggest in that Petey is inching closer to a breakout game.

Joshua could be back in a week. Demko still progressing. Getting either of these guys back will be a huge boost to the room.

Forbert situation is a curious one.

Just noticed Forbert has returned to the team. Brännström and Bains have been reassigned to Abbotsford.

Yeah, it would've been nice to see him in a few more games.
I thought he was starting to develop some chemistry with Desharnais.
Oh well, lighting it up in Abby's a good thing too.
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it
