That was my first thought when I heard one offer was made and quickly accepted. Like if that is their 1st offer you couldn’t have squeezed out more? Take a beat, talk it over, make Minny wait a day? Did they think the offer was too good to be true? Significantly better than any previous offers? Perhaps because it came with no expectation that Hughes would extend there made the offer too attractive to lose?
I dunno. I still think they could have had a sweetener. Minny was obviously all in at that point.

No doubt it was there to be had. You mention a sweetener, we could've offered one to them. Like if BG balks at giving up another 1st, you offer a 3rd or 2nd for it. Or a 3rd for their future 2nd. That kinda thing to move up a round or two. Among the other suggestions, something more could've/should've been done.
This organization's great at handing out draft picks like candy to children, but have no idea how to take it from them.

A conditional would've been fun for us fans. Like a pick if Minny makes Conference Finals or if Quinn signs extensive, that kinda thing. Though I'd hate to cheer for either outcome.

What if instead of signing extensive he signed limited?

I think Kyle just asked Elliotte on 32 Thoughts about a similar possibility with Andersson signing, and Friedman said you can't do that anymore based on the last CBA.

Talking heads saying that quite a few teams are calling the Canucks in EP 40. Driving force behind it is that the list of available centres is pretty thin and many believe Petey will find his old form on a new team.

That's encouraging, and not.....the lack of available C's makes it hard to make a move.
Would it be worth trading him for a young winger that projects to be the play driving sort and going after a guy like Schmalz in free agency?
Worth looking at because I think we all know that a 1C is going to have to be drafted, or paid through the nose for with futures.

The onr elite center in this draft, Tynan Lawrence, has been inching himself up the rankings and sits atop some lists now. He has jumped to Boston University for the spring semester and is pointless in five games so far, it seems. Bold move by the kid, he'll be worth following. And he is Canadian, despite spending the past couple of years in the States, which I only just found out.

Got it the first time (blaming autocorrect).
Still wanted to add that point about the signing thing. I didn't know, now I know.

Just did a quick check and I have seen him ranked 3rd, 4th and 6th by 3 different sites.
Currently Canucks 2nd pick is 26th, maybe they can bundle that plus a 2nd rounder and move up if they see someone they really like?

Someone had him ranked first as well, which is something I haven't seen until now, and which was kind of a ***ding!.ding!, ding!*** moment for me. He seems to be climbing.

I usually find players that suddenly climb in the rankings, especially at this point in the season, a bit concerning.

Yeah, I get that, but Willander did turn out okay. So far at least.

If the Canucks land in the top 2 picks, I wouldn’t take him. However, wouldn’t be against the Canucks using the wild pick to move up and take him with the other pick. That is assuming it wouldn’t be too expensive to move up in the draft.
