He's never been a Superstar.
Never will be from what I have seen.
The Canucks have employed 1 player in their existence that could be included in a conversation regarding Superstars.
Edit...and 306, you are jumping into a years long conversation regarding EP4011.6.
Not a this season nor since contract inception discussion.
Just FYI bud.
Yes 306, this debate has been ongoing for a couple of seasons now and picked up steam as discussions started on his "next contract". Unfortunately the thread was lost in the software upgrade, but I long ago started an Overrated discussion when I began to see him failing as additional attention was being paid to him by the opposition. I questioned if he was nothing but a PP dummy and how long it would take teams to figure out that a third line could be effective against him if they went physical?
Much of what we see today was discussed, though I don't thin k anyone believed it would be this bad.
He demanded the money, management relented, he isn't living up to it, nor did he arrive ready to perform.
I have read a lot of it. And believe me, I balked at the contract too! My Shrink says I need to be less pessimistic and this is a line I drew in the sand for myself.
Just for shits and giggles would you trade Petey for Mitch Marner at a slightly lower cap hit?

From what I saw last night, the Canucks put together one of their best efforts of this early season. Limited odd man rushes, defensively sound while clogging up the middle and showing speed and transition in the neutral zone.
Lankinen was strong again, as was Hughes and Myers.
Pettersson too had a strong game, particularly on the PK. He was physical, strong on the back check and again had several scoring chances. The effort is there and his body language shows more confidence.
I’d like to read about him showing up to practice early, leaving late and working on his shot in this coming home stand.

He's a 26 year old, 6 season vet who demanded to be paid higher than Nylander. Tell me what slack he needs to be cut and how much coddling is require for his fragile ego.
He's pissing the bed while collecting the biggest cheques the organization hands out.
I don't think its about "slack" or coddling at all. My observation is just about evaluating whether this career point a game player is going to be delivering a point a game again in the near future. If he plays like he did last night, the answer will be yes.

And for what its worth, 306, my position generally on EP40 is that any successful team has to identify a core of players that can compete for the Stanley Cup, that there aren't enough of these players in the league for every team to be competitive at the same time, and that while EP40 is imperfect, his topside performance makes him a player that can be a core player on a Stanley Cup competitive team. It was reasonable to run with him on the theory that the bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. The window is now --> 3 years, the alternatives for now are not obviously available, and the fact that by inking this contract the Canucks have left themselves no other option than for EP40 to show up is one more option than they had over the past 10 years and one more option than if they had never drafted him.

I really like this post. And since the organization rolled the dice on Petey I would hope they spare no expense in getting his performance where it needs to be. Managing people in the time on Gen Z has forced this dinosaur to rethink the whole human performance issue. "Just be better" doesn't seem to work anymore.

Yes. For all his warts, Marner, though equally (perhaps more?) perimeter, is a better skater. Also, since breaking out in his 3rd season he has scored at ~ 1.20 ppg pace with no regression like we’ve seen from EP40.
I don’t see Marner as a line driver, neither do I see Pettersson as such. So I’ll pay less now, and roughly the same next year, for the guy who can make quicker, tighter, turns and stay on his feet while only being a year older than the guy I’d be shipping out.

There are reasons Leaves fans are running Marner out of town.
And rumour says he wants $12.5M per btw.
He feeds off a 60 goal pigman and when playoffs come he disappears.
You think Petey is pouty, wait until you get a load of the self-proclaimed "god".
Why is this even being discussed?
Marner has a full NMC and refuses to wave it.

also, a winger. not a solution.
Lots of hate on Petey, for good reason, but what is the solution?
Like it or not we came out of the rebuild relying on him being our major piece.
There will be no trade of Petey at rock bottom value that keep us in the true cup contender conversation.
We can't re-negotiate his contract.
Are all the ones dumping on him angling for a rebuild?
Maybe that rumoured trade of him to Carolina last year before all this would have been the one to put us over the top. we'll likely never know.

I can think of 2, one is currently on the roster.
Only 2? And one is currently on the roster?
Really?
The only clear Canucks "Superstars" I would classify would be the 3 of the 6 that are in the rafters and the HOF.
EDIT: Shit, I assumed you were talking about current roster "superstar" 11point6. You were really referring to the GOAT D? Yes, then I would agree... but I would still include the Lookalikes.

Can't see anything wrong with that particularly.
Especially if it generates a bit of chit chat.
Surely you don't disagree?

At present, the only logical thing to do is exercise extreme patience with Petey.
And longtime Nuckers know a thing or two about extreme patience.

Oh, I thought it was just Mëds trying to trade a Swede again.
New Guy: Trade ideas are fun, but bottom line = Marner won't wave.
(also, Strangelove hates Leaves players)

We should expect Skinny Pete to play for longer than Jaromir Jagr then? 54 years of extreme patience... and counting...
