Yeah, there are all sorts of stats and news bites available on the intrawebz providing a multitude of numbers but most data tends to point to an exodus rather than in influx into the Golden State.
Claims of 7.5 million in the past decade with net loss human capital ratios (US citizens out vs immigrants in...j/k j/k
) somewhere around 250K per annum as a general number.
Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Florida appear to be the go to States with reasons ranging from cost of living, crime, Woke Politics, wildfires, water issues et cetera....
The California dream is seemingly not what it one was....

I’ll qualify that equal investment needs to go into refining and manufacturing. It’s stupid to sell the raw materials only to have the final product sold back to you at a mark up.

Rural folk pay a disproportionately high amount property tax for the level of service they glean from the system.
Those of us that live in the county, have no sewer, water, trash, zero emergency services that can respond in a timely manner, very limited local health care. Basically roads and schools.

We a are running expensive emergency rooms among other essential services in small towns so Jethro can take a piss outside on his 700 acres, FFS.

Municipalities may not provide water, sewer, or garbage pickup for rural residents, but they also maintain a lot more roads and ditches for them. The same goes for hydro, phone, cable, gas ... there's a lot more infrastructure to maintain per household for rural residents than city folks.
Some municipalities provide discounts if you don't get some services. I don't pay for garbage pickup in my property tax.
Also if you are a rural property owner you'll get a higher Homeowner Grant and you can massively reduce your property tax if you claim farm status.
Taking all that into consideration I think you get more if you are a rural property owner.

True the roads need grading after snow and once or twice in the summer but this and schools are basically all we were gaining from living remote.
Gaining your farm designation requires a minimum threshold of farm generated income that is scrutinized annually. It's more than one can gain from selling eggs or leasing out paddock for crops or beef. You legitimately must be earning some cake from your land to receive that benefit. Believe me it's not easy to do

Yeah I'm rural folk like Cuz, probably not as a remote though. Got my farm status only pay $400 a year. Most people do it with eggs you only need 60 chickens but I bet most of them fake their sales logs anyways that's all you have to show for the audit which is maybe every two years here in BC. Can't stand traffic it's getting worse here but the wife doesn't want to go anywhere else. Would love to live closer to the mountains like the Kootenays or Pemberton area.
