Here’s a good little story about my grandfather - the liquor control board visited his establishment once saying there are to many hookers in the bar and warned him he had to get rid of them. Gramps wrote them a letter and stated - ‘Gentleman, as requested I got rid of all the hookers. I also got rid of all my business.’ lol. True story.

The ‘characters’ were vital to the skid row hotel’s in staying afloat back then, still are for some of them. One native gal, when my Dad was managing it, named Shampoo, was the hooker I remember most. I remember her well cause she was always lifting her top up exposing her disgusting boobs. My Dad of course, was getting a cut (the house’s cut they called it). You guys have no idea how rough it was down there. When it was turned into a stripper bar mid 70’s it actually cleaned up the clientele considerably. Characters like you wouldn’t believe. The 60’s was a very low point for that neighborhood but not as low as it is now.

By slashing this Bill down to 118 pages from 1500 I hope that the opportunity thus arises for more of the General Public, as you have obviously done, to demonstrate the attention span to review the available information and regard what is (or has been) going on which then, in turn, may promote a push towards enforcing an overall accountability of our elected officials.

So, in summary, my hope this that by weaning this bitch down to readable and understandable the GP (us) summon up something beyond our currently limited, Social Media induced, Celeb Drama, next Pandemic, Kardashian level attention spans start to give a fuck and begin to watch what's going on (Governmental arrogance and wastefullness for instance) and then (hopefully) do something about it.

Interesting post Donny though I'm not sure I fully agree with you as I didn't read the bill nor would 99.999% of voters I think, regardless of the number of pages. Most of us get our info from news feeds, Twitter, bloggers, podcasts, and only rarely directly from the source a la Topper. I did check the US Congress website but it is not friendly enough to give me a bullet point summary of this bill. Did you or someone you know personally read the 118 page bill?

I think going forward it wouldn't be that hard to feed the bill through an AI engine to produce a bullet summary and even allow one to question the AI to get further details in areas you're interested in. Maybe Musk should be working on that.

All great ideas. There's plenty of traffic on X on how to query the document. Just pass it the URL and ask your question. A great application of AI to make government more accessible, but I think most of the voting population is not interacting with AI as yet.

I asked about pork barrel items and there are plenty but I don't think they move the needle in terms of balancing the budget. Major cuts are needed to either defense or entitlements and the political will to do that doesn't exist.

I missed the threat to Denmark. I thought he was floating the idea of a sale, not conquest. When the US made the Louisiana Purchase from France, France was more or less an American ally.

And I don't think Greenland's main purpose is military, though I suspect that the United States has legitimate concerns about air routes between Europe/Russia and the US. I think the US is interested in exploiting untapped natural resources in Greenland, or at least adding them to the US's strategic reserve. I imagine the pace of prospecting and exploitation in a US-controlled Greenland would increase; perhaps the same would be true if a non-Trudeau-led Canada controlled Greenland. When we are dealing with a largely unused and unoccupied territory, it seems that land sale characteristics (money gets property ownership to those with highest and best use) may dominate here. I don't have a strong opinion on the question, I just think that its not an idea to be laughed off or considered "unthinkable."

Oh, the US acquiring Greenland is like saying its okay to eat the young and destitute. I see. Great point!

Did you know the US previously tried to purchase Greenland? During WWII, the US supported it while Denmark was occupied. After the war, the US offered to purchase it; Greenlanders wanted independence from Denmark. Denmark didn't accept the purchase, but largely decolonized Greenland in the years immediately following and granted Greenland a degree of independence it hadn't previously had.

FWIW, I don't think Trump's mention of Greenland was any more off the cuff than Musk's tweet offering to buy Twitter.
