A group of 77 Nobel laureates — a coalition from the fields of medicine, physics, chemistry and economics — wrote an open letter to the Senate on Monday urging lawmakers to reject Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s bid to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

Thus the court confirmed that he had done it, but because of the statute of limitations he cannot be charged with the criminal offence.

One of the reasons our rape statistics are pretty high is that we have a broader definition of what rape is than most other countries.

The statute of limitations exists for many reasons. How on earth does one defend oneself when 20 years later someone says "this happened to me" and there's no ability to even marshal evidence beyond testimony. Memory suffers after 20 years -- do you really believe your perception of what happened to you 20 years ago is the same of your perception 2 months after the event? And how about the date? Most people accused of a crime have the ability to prove they were elsewhere -- its the most common type of defense (that's often sorted before charged). Where are your alibis 20 years later -- or how does it matter when you aren't even provided the date on which the event occurred? You can't even find and interview the store clerks or get the surveillance to find out if she was there (or to corroborate that you weren't).

I'm not expressing a view on whether Trump did this or didn't do this. I am not in a position to know. The point is that statute of limitations recognizes that at some point, nobody is in a position to be able to really know (or marshal a defense).
