Nothing strange. Voter turnout is ridiculously low in US presidential elections. Typically in the low to mid 50's.
In 2020 it rose to 62.8%, which is better, but still quite low compared to other developed democracies.
Germany 2021 was 73.6%, Sweden in 2022 was 84.2%. The average for the OECD is 69%.
Voter turnout in US presidential elections, as a percentage of voting age population:
1980 - 52.8%
1984 - 53.3%
1988 - 50.3%
1992 - 55.2%
1996 - 49.0%
2000 - 50.5%
2004 - 55.7%
2008 - 57.1%
2012 - 53.8%
2016 - 54.8%
2020 - 62.8%
Obviously more people found they had a fuck to give in 2020 than in a typical US election year.
Trump got roughly the same amout of votes in 2020 and 2024.
The main difference seems to be that 13 million people who turned up to vote for Biden couldn't be bothered to go vote for Kamala.
The only strange thing about that bar chart is that it starts at 50 instead of 0, which makes the difference between the selected years look a lot more significant than it actually is. I find that kind of dishonest.
